KFRC flipped this morning at 10am to Movin and they are streaming!

Wow....I can't say that I surprised be the move. Well, it was hard for me to get used to the "Classic Hits" format they were doing recently.

KFRC R.I.P. -- Am I to assume that they will scrap the KFRC calls?

Wow ... that was my first thought, too: this ain't your daddy's KFRC.

But I like it.

And I also thought that it would be at 106.9, but I guess that somebody at CBS still believes that mistake might still have a pulse.

(Pulse: yes. Brainwave activity: no.)

This actually makes a lot of sense if you think of KFRC in terms of the Gerry Cagle era from 1980-1983 rather than what came before or after. Their approach was heavily rhythmic then.

I could easily hear Bill Lee, Harry Nelson, Mark McKay, Jackson Armstrong, Dave Sholin, Bobby Ocean and Sue Hall playing this music.

And if CBS does it right, maybe we will!

KFRC 99.7FM FLIPS TO “MOViN99.7” BEGINNING TODAY, SEPT. 22

The format, which targets women 25-44, is a new version of rhythmic AC focusing on a blend of adult hits from the 80s, 90s and today. I like how they are telling listeners what the station is about.

I've heard a music promo talking about WHY they play this music (from back in your school days, etc.). I also heard a sweeper that started with "here is what Movin is all about"

Very smart. Sometimes you need to SHOW people why they need/want this.

I like it!

You have to think think the Bonneville people are not too happy. I would think this signs the death warrent for Max. And would take some women from KOIT.

On the other hand, they must be "movin" and dancing over at Cumulus. I see some listeners going there but not one leaving the Bone of KFOG for the new format.

Could this mean a return of a Top 40 format(Z95.7), Country Music(95-7 The Bear) or maybe Bonneville has other plans for that frequency? Hmmmmmm?

I think it's the WORST mistake KFRC ever made!!!! We already have ENOUGH of these stations that play the same genre of music!!!!! I'm wandering what station WILL pick up the oldies format?

If you don't what's offered on the Bay Area Radio airwaves, may I reccommend you get a subscription to XM Satellite Radio! They offer every genre of music to satify your musical tastes, most of their music channels are commercial free!!!!!

KMEL, KISQ, KBLX, KYLD, KNGY, and now Movin' 99.7 Somethings going to break from the strain! Can this market seriously support this many stations splitting this pie? The market is getting very close to bursting at
the seams! And the same music that "makes you feel good imaging" again? Format of the month all over again! And what about Cammy and Dean and Sue Hall? Might Max FM modify their format a bit now, or maybe KOIT will go oldies on 1260 AM? Or are we about to see KFRC where KYCY is now on 1550AM? You can be sure that a change is coming to 1550 in the very near future!

I think Movin takes the most from KMEL, Star, Wild and Alice. Alice only because they also cater to a 25-30+ female which seems to be the sweet spot for Movin based on the music I've heard today. It'll be interesting to see what kind of jocks the station brings in. You'll see the race 18-34 get a little more interesting with Movin taking shares from KMEL and Wild, as well as 25-54 with Star and Alice. Smart move by CBS, Bonnie has got to be bummed as mentioned earlier. This would have been an easy thing to throw on Max. Does anyone know if Max would prefer to be buried or cremated?

To answer the 1550Am question.

NO!

Why are you so sure that a change is in the works? is it a guess, hunch or do u actually know?

I'll tell you why because the decision will be made in New York thats why! And by the way have you examined the track record of the corporate honchos lately? They just react without any regard to what the local managers want to do! A change is in the works count on it! And if the folks at 106.9 think they are safe,
I've got a bridge to sell them because they are on even thinner ice than 1550 is, why? I'll tell you why! But first, which one of the $95 million reasons do you want to hear first? This station had better start bringing in some cash fast or they are gone!

So you dont really know do you then. All I hear is supposition.

My question is why they would blow up KFRC for Movin when KIFR's best trend so far has been a 0.4? Do you think the suits believe they can still turn this station around?

Well, I guess "Movin" is the hot flavor of the month. KZLA in LA dropped Country for this format and has attracting a lot of buzz in any case - too soon to tell about ratings. I listened for awhile and I'll admit I liked it too - though it's hard to tell how well it will wear. I liked "Classic Soul" on KSOL (98.9) for awhile at first, and later "Old School" (same thing) on Kiss-FM too, though both stations got old for me due to constant repetition. Hopefully Jack's success in some markets has made radio programmers realize they need to keep a large playlist and rotate songs in and out frequently.

RE: Michael Hagerty's comment - I couldn't agree more about using the Cagle era KFRC jocks, though it's probably wishful thinking - the station has already demonstrated that they don't appreciate Bobby Ocean. Broadway Bill Lee is hot in New York now, and I've heard that McKay is gainfully employed elsewhere. All they have to do to have Sue Hall is not fire her. I know it's radio, but assuming they fire the current on-air staff, you have to feel bad for Jo Jo Kincaid who just moved to town a few months ago.

One silver lining - they might finally get rid of the talent-free Cammy Blackstone, who would be like fingernails on a chalkboard delivering this format. Her longevity (about 11 or 12 years at KFRC) is a mystery to me. They'll probably keep her figuring she'll pull in the 16-44 year old women they're targeting.

I think KIFR is safe for now. This was a national roll out by CBS, not just in SF. I don't think they would blow up KIFR and let the other low performing FREE-FM's throughout the country stay on.
