KFRC: Here's What I Hear...

Good move from the folks at CBS. KFRC is now on 106.9 and it's now a Classic Hits station. This is a new format that plays the same thing that WBPM is trying to do with its format at 92.9 in the Hudson Valley section of New York. Free-FM is done for now, 92.3 should be next to dump the Free-FM brand from its station to come up with something different. Thanks to CBS for this one.

And I declare the Winner to Be...........BossRadioDJ!!!!!!!!! And on a side note, this is the highlight of my day, great intro with the classic jingle. Good reporting BRDJ

...so Buan reads the press-release, his show continues, I go back to work. WHAT HAPPENED? Stunting, first song? I was rolling tape on the audio/FreeFM but it dropped (on my pc).

See my note above. I don't think Robert Buan was supposed to read the press release. All the drama was supposed to be held for "The Magical Mystery Tour" beginning *after* "Extra Innings."

He was quickly cut off and the stunting started.

It sure did get quite on the board everyone must be listening to KFRC 106.9 FM! So when do we get the 50's and 60's oldies on 1260 KYA " The Boss of the Bay?" And what happens to 99.7 when MOViN crashes and burns? If it goes all news then life is truely a circle!

I have it on pretty good authority that MOViN 99.7 will survive, at least for the near term.

I'm sure the 55 gallon drum they got the format out of still has a few more dancing butts in it.

When you get to the bottom of that 55 gallon drum, there is a note that advises you to change formats because that "Will make you Feel Good!

Musically, it's not so much the return of KFRC as it is MAX redux. It's been about 90% '70s in the past hour of the letter "C" (Crocodile Rock, Cisco Kid, the Chain, etc) but the letter "D" began with Huey Lewis' "Do You Believe in Love", followed by the Beatles' "Day in the Life", so there's at least lip service being paid to '60s & '80s.

At least til the next book comes out and its still a flop! MOViN is next but they want to whisle past the graveyard a little bit longer!

...And for the few dozen of you who care, the radio museum's "Big 610" streaming audio has been -- as I expected -- rendered unnecessary, and was stopped at noon today.

Stunting for the "new format" has begun at http://sc3.spacialnet.com:9784/

DJ:

I was one of the few dozen. Disappointed to see the demise of your version of
The Big 610. Did CBS ask you to stop the stream?

I'm glad that you guys got something resembling an oldies outlet again, but I'll miss your stream.

Don

So far I'm happy, Thank you CBS for having faith finally in our KFRC call letters, I turned in briefly on-line today and heard one of the old classic K-F-R-C jingles, I think someone at CBS is being creative.

I Currently live in Tampa, FL and WRBQ a classic 70's/80's Top 40 station had been doing oldies for awhile here in Tampa and about 2 years ago CBS brought the old sound back to life with the Q-105 jingles and IDS, Thank You CBS for bringing us back our K-F-R-C and now lets be creative with our on-air line up and voice images.

Hi Folks:

I'm not all that thrilled about the "Voice" of the station. The guys "pretending" to be Bobby Ocean with the dramatic sounding and drawn out speaking. After hearing Ocean for so many years I'm interested in something new.

Sure hope they don't bring back Goss/Garrett, Sue Hall, Sylvia Chacon etc. they need some real Dee jays that have true personality. Where is Don sainte Johnne these days?

Any thoughts.............?

Mike

Hi Mike,

In case you don't recognize the V/O talent, that's Beau Weaver who did morning drive prior to Dr. Don Rose's arrival in '73. After 610, Beau went to KHJ. He's not pretending to be Osh...that's how Beau sounds or have you missed his ABC TV promo's in the past 10 years?

Who would those real personalities be in your mind? I'm interested to know. ALso Sainte John is at V-101 in Sacto doing Afternoons. He's been there for at least 8 years. The past 2 doing Afternoons.

While I'm at it, hats off to Mike Preston and Tim Jordan for putting together a first rate job with the Magical Mystery Tour! Well done guys!

"Sure hope they don't bring back Goss/Garrett, Sue Hall, Sylvia Chacon etc. they need some real Dee jays that have true personality. Where is Don sainte Johnne these days?"

As pointed out above, Don Sainte John is working at V-101.1 Sacramento. It's a clone of 98.1 Kiss-FM where he is billed as "Doctor Don Sainte John" which I find a little sacreligious.

Sue Hall is working at The Wolf in a supporting role on their morning show, so she may or may not be available. Sylvia Chacon jumped ship at KFRC about a year before it became MOViN - for the mid-morning job at Star 101.3. At the time, she said she hated leaving KFRC, but didn't want to work nights anymore because she has school age children. I think Sylvia and Bleu have the only live, non-voice-tracked shows on Star.

Movin' goes to KMVQ next week...
