KFRC STILL HASN'T FOUND ITS WAY MUSICALLY?

Heard The Who and Yvonne Elliman back to back the other day??...That just doesn't work

These guys don't seem to get it? Can't keep it on for extended periods of time.

KFRC just can't seem to find an identity...Could be so much better than it is and the ratings show it??

WHY doesn't it work? What were the songs? The songs make all the difference. I've heard all kinds of mash-ups that work, and from genres more widely separated than this.

If you don't like the "Music" on KFRC then just turn it off and leave it off! That's what I did, its just too easy to program the music you like on your own personal music player!

It's amazing to me how people react so sensitive to a station's or a dying media's formatics especially when there are so many other sources out there. I picture this kind of person with a plastic General Electric AM/FM alarm clock radio with a pinball machine inside their bedroom along with some comic books. Oh...they probably are wearing those old thick black framed glasses while reading their comic books and listening to KFRC on their GE AM/FM alarm clock mono radio.

I think "dying medium" is more accurate.

Yet, we have been hearing about the "death" or radio for so long that I am wondering why it hasn't completely died?

The reason why is exactly that people care about it, and are more connected to it than their Ipod, computer, and most other "source" to get music, information, and entertainment.

Radio is still much more intimate then the other forms of "media" in the communication/content providing "Medium".

That doesn't mean radio doesn't have its issues, it does, and plenty of them, but that has more to do with the folks heading up and programming the operations then the technology. Radio under good care is "good radio"...otherwise it is noise coming from a piece of furniture or some sort of accessory.

Keep trying to kill of radio, I know many in the industry seem to be trying to do so, but like the "circle of life", it will (and is in some cases) coming back around, though it may be a longer journey.

GM reported that it's putting the brakes on SUV's along with the death of the Hummer. Does it mean that SUV's will be completely extinct 3-5 years on the highway from now? I'm sure you will be sight spotting some Hummers on Highway 580 5 years from now.
When something has been around for 20,50,80 years....and it's time maybe due......it doesn't mean that it will dissappear in 5 minutes. There's still alot out there....and people are not going to just trash something that they have some cash or investment in.

Paragon had a report out that was in the news yesterday (at least radio news). It shows the 14-24 age group's listening was up over last year. Folks in that age group listening for 7-10 hours a week (which is heavy listening...more than 4 hours a week is better than most according to ARB) went from 8-12%. There is still some life left in the old girl yet, but with many more easy sources for music, stations had better start doing more things right...

Hey - be nice...our lives our rough. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find vacuum tubes these days?

I haven't played pinball in years...not since I got Pong.

As for KFRC...I haven't listened to it in a long time. I keep tuning in 610, but they keep talking about some guy named Christ. Isn't he the Governor of Florida? Then I tried tuning in KYA, but they're talking about the same guy.

LMFAO

Hey at least you can hear the rosary recited on 1260.... ;D

It is nice to hear 610 and 1260 duking it out again!

I heard "In a god of Davida" on KFRC last night
Every night at midnight 1260 plays the Rosary by Rev. Ray Charles. That's what I said!

You can feel what you want Starbucks...not taking that from you.

But you are in the minority....other than folks like you who have been "killing Off" radio for close to 25 years...it was going to be Cassette's, CD's, then DAT (remember that "great invent?), then it was the "walkman", Discman, then the Internet, eventually IPod, the Satellite Radio, wireless internet.

The technology/delivery system has improved, but it cannot captialize on the "intimacy", the cheapness of radio (cheap in that radio is free and ominpresent".

When done right, radio beats all those combined!

Turn the numbers around for KYA's former dial position and what do you get? 610 #2 All Religion "All The Time." Sorry couldn't help myself! BA HA Ha Ha Ha!

kya's personalities are way better then kfrc's personalities, kfrc has one that is too old for radio :D

I am in the rapidly growing minority.....and people like me are not trying to kill off radio. radio is killing radio, plus it's the sign of the times.

It's free......but if it can't deliver....it doesn't matter.

When done right, radio beats all those combined!

Tell me what's been done in the last 15 years that's been done right.

"Tell me what's been done in the last 15 years that's been done right."

At the risk of being labeled a "Polyanna" type, I'll break from the regular anti-radio screed on this board and list a few things that have been done right in the last 15 years. By the way, I include myself as somebody who has complained about radio regularly. I'll put aside my own personal musical tastes, and mention a few stations that I don't listen to regularly, but have often made a sincere attempt to create good local live radio. Just because it doesn't conform to my taste, doesn't mean it isn't good, after all.

1. NPR (KQED, KALW, and others). Try streaming KCRW from Santa Monica.

2. KGO - probably the best talk station in the county.

3. KFOG - I've heard others quibble that it's far from perfect, but it's always very listenable.

4. Live 105 and Alice - neither are to my taste musically, but make a sincere effort to deliver their format

5. KDFC - a consistently good, though not great classical music station. At least we still have one in the Bay Area

6. KCSM - a great real jazz station - as good as KJAZ in its heyday.

7. KFRC with Oldies in the mid 90s, again for a few months before the disasterous flip to "soft hits," then again for a few months as a good classic hits station before they blew it up for MOViN.

8. Wild 94.9 - not always, but often very good at what they do, with some good jocks from time to time.

9. 95.7 The Wolf - I'm not a country music fan, but Entercom is working hard to make it an entertaining station.

10. K-Pig - streamed online. It would be great if this station had a local FM repeater.

11. The Bone - not quite my type of music, either, but I get into it occasionally. They have some good live (or live sounding) jocks. I hear their play list is too small, but I don't listen often enough to know.

12. The Sunday Super Oldies Show on 98.1 Kiss FM. A break with the station's regular tight play list, some great soul songs you never hear anymore, and Tony Sandoval is a very good DJ.

13. The variety of music on the HD2 channels. I know nobody is listening yet, but I do...and I've heard a lot of interesting music that I hadn't heard before.
