I wish Bobby Ocean would get fill in work on KFRC,,,alot of it,,,CBS,,,when Jay Coffee goes on vacation,,,why not let JMF or Bobby Ocean fill in? Lets not forget these two put KFRC where it was in the 70s,,,,Unmeasurable talent,legends in the bay area...Ocean has over 40 years of Bay Area radio and John mack Flanagan since 1973,,,thats 74 years combined,,,,They deserve a radio gig,,,,

Agreed, Kenny, and I share your pain. But to repeat what has been reported here numerous times about 106.9's flip back to Classic Hits - CBS talked to Bobby, and he basically told them that he's not interested. He felt mis-treated by CBS before, and was clear that Bonneville treated their people much better. Things have changed a little since then - KOIT is under new management, but he seems to still be comfortable as a fill-in guy there. That and his voice-over work probably make for a good living - most of it done in his Marin home - without having to pull a shift every day.
JMF has stated numerous times on this very board that he likes his current non-radio career, and is much happier than when he was kicked around by the constant job insecurity of radio. He dabbles a little; doing the Sunday morning Beatles show, and some segments for this weekends Top 10 countdown. I don't think he wants to do more.

You work at a home furnishings store. You do your best to greet the customers, help them with their selections, ring up their sales. Well, that's broadcasting. It doesn't matter if you do a good job; if management is trying to appeal to a slightly different audience, you're out, and no amount of prior success, ratings, or company loyalty will change that.
With that kind of scenario, it's no wonder that so many talent have gone to voiceover work such as it is, or gotten out entirely.

Lkeller, nice reply, however a company like CBS is loaded,,Im sure they spare no expense for Gary Bryan at KRTH,,,and Ron Parker @ WCBS,,,, perhaps they made a mistake by letting Bobby Ocean go,,,,then off to XM and they cut him loose,,for some no name talent,,these big conglomerates,,,to them its all about the "Bottom Line" $$$,,,Personally im more into enjoying the DJ than worrying if someones overpayed,,, Im glad JMF is happy with his new career.. Its too bad hes not on the air,,,radio is so good with the right people.... Someday they CBS ought to have a reunion and let these guys take over KFRC for a day,, and bring back some memories, and let them play their favorite songs all day long!! Please Exclude Cammy Blackstone !!!!
One more thing let this lineup of fabulous air talent be creative with some energy and passion for the music.

wow! I didn't know of anyone outside of mornings making $150 grand a year at KFRC lately, or $40 per hour for fill in. Even years ago at 98.1 the union contract was just over half that for FT, and the top was $48 per hour plus a week's vacation for part timers. That was a number of contracts and many give backs ago. Non union KFRC and K101 were never known for paying that kind of dough...more like the mid 20s for part timers.
That was back in 2004/05 and it was the afternoon guy (that earned 150K) who replaced Bobby Ocean. He (I cannot remember his name) was brought in from Portland by the new PD Bob Harlow in the fall of 04 for afternoon drive.
Bob Harlow also brought in my old friend Christopher Lance for 7:00 p.m. to Midnight at 80K plus paid parking.
The regular part time pay (at KFRC) at that time was $ 30.00 per hour except Joe Ike resigned a couple of times and they would rasie his pay and talk about a possible full-time position to keep hime from leaving.
Does anyone know if there is any weekend talent on the air at KFRC now?
If it is just music and the same old liners it is too boring to listen. SFstatic I would not be surprised if they did lower the pay. Now it seems more like zero because I have never heard a part-timer on 106.9 KFRC.

DJs are a huge part of radio,, Satellite, or Terrestrial.. juke box formats are boring! With the amount of money XM ,,Sirius, and CBS pull in its just plain Tight, to not have a DJ on! Years ago KFRC had JJ Stone on overnights,,,,this guy was so entertaining,,, then one day gone,, Cost cutting measure? Satellite is no better,,,Sirius cut deep on Sirius Gold last year,, except for Norm N Nite on weekends for 3 hours each day! WCBS has Pat St John, and Sirius has him too.. KFRC had a great PD when Bob Harlow was in charge,,, At 80k Christopher Lance was a bargain,,, It really amazes me how they bring in No Name never heard of talent,,XM blew it by Eliminating Bobby Ocean on the 70s channel...It had to be money,,,Whatever he wanted, XM should have paid,,,the guys got over 40 years of radio ,,very well known, Funny and made radio worth listening to! Its really mind boggling ,,I swear the Suits at XM, Sirius, and CBS, are all in bed together,,,Wake up satellite radio,,its the listeners who pay !

I believe his name was Ron Leonard. His voice was irritating, and he always laughed too hard at his own unfunny jokes. He'd do ridiculous ad-libs with the traffic reporter, which I guess he thought were edgy and clever, but the traffic reporter always sounded like she couldn't wait to hang up on him.

Lance, on the other hand, was an asset to the station, IMO.
