KFRC'S LATEST NUMBERS

"By the way, according to many in the Sales and Programming Departments, Kincaid was the best thing to hit KFRC in a long time. Word is, he helped to drive billing and raised the bar of performance for the rest of the airstaff. Plus, his fit factor with MOVIN would have been very high, given his experience with Rhythmic CHR powerhouses like Kiss in Boston and Q-106, San Diego. JoJo was APD at both of those stations and surely would have brought much to the table with the new format. Instead, CBS sent him home. Talk about blowing an opportunity. One more comment...be easy on Mike Preston. This mistake was not his call. In the opinion of many, including CBS management, he had KFRC sounding really good and getting better. What a damned shame."

It is a damned shame. It's worth noting that KFRC's "Classic Hits" sister station in Los Angeles - K-Earth 101 - showed a significant gain in the ratings, and is tied for number 10 in that vast market. It's possible that Classic Hits at KFRC would have made similar gains if given some time to grow. OR - failing that, they could have kept Kincaid and Katie Mason on board to anchor the Movin format. I think they're hurt by the endless repetition of those few unfunny and annoying "Brad" and "Tasia" imaging promos. They should either get off their keisters and hire some jocks, or replace B & T with pre-recorded image spots that are more interesting. A lot of people have criticized those snarky John O'Hurley bits on Max-FM, but at least some of them are funny, and they've got a whole library of them, so they don't grow so stale.

CBS should clean house...

97.3 - "Hot 97" in your face Urban
99.7 - straight ahead AC to give KOIT a run for their money
105.3 - keep the legendary calls, but figure out what the hell you're doing with them
106.9 - give country one last shot, and put some money into it this time. Couldn't have worse numbers than Free.

My humble opinion

And don't hire Rusty Walker again.

Unfortunately for KRTH and Jhani Kaye, the 25-54 numbers are still flat, 0.1 above Winter 2006, 0.1 below Spring of 2006 and the same as the Summer book. This puts them at 13th in the sales demos, where there has been no improvement yet. Like all oldies stations, the issue is not increasing TSL or 12+, it is moving the whole station so taht more of the listening is in 25-54 and having less of a 55+ component.

K-Earth is up in total listening, no matter the demo.

David, you said they ranked 13th 25-54,
is that up or down in rank?

Being that their change is a .1, I'm guessing rank is about the same.

No significant change. In Spring, there were 3 stations tied at 13th, including KRTH, and in Summer it was 15th, but up in Fall only because KPWR (which barely competes on 25-54 buys) slipped by a tenth, and KHHT lost a significant amount of share. So, on the average, the 25-54 postion and share is flat.
