KFXR operating at night from day site

KFXR 1190 has filed an engineering STA to operate at night with 5kw from its day site, due to transmitter repair issues at the night site. From the filing:

“We are unable to quickly source parts needed to repair the transmitter for the night site. We are operating the day site with power reduced to 5 kw until repairs can be made.”

Maybe it’s my suspicious mind at work, but I have to wonder if iHeart might be considering shutting down the 1190 night site near Rockwall and re-engineering the centrally located day site for night operation? This could be a test of that.

 
I was unaware iHeart had sold the nighttime site land to Bloomfield Homes back in 2018, which subsequently transferred the land to the Terracina HOA in 2022. Terracina is Bloomfield's subdivision bordering the eastern side of the site, so it seems like the towers' days could well be numbered.

I recall first seeing the night site around 1970 when it was new. The twelve tower array was quite amazing.

The lack of night coverage for 1190 in much of the northern Metroplex due to the signal pattern has become more of an issue in recent years. There are some areas of northeast Dallas County and southern Collin County where you can see the towers off in the distance at night but there is absolutely no reception.

If the 12-stick nighttime site is licensed for 5 kW, and they can operate 5 kW nighttime from the daytime site as well, then what's the point of having the separate nighttime site?

The two signal patterns are quite different as there are a number of stations 1190 has to steer clear of. The day site pattern used at night doesn’t meet those restrictions even at reduced power. Any future permanent night use of the day site would involve a major phasing reconfiguration of the current array.

i think what he was getting at.. is how can they operate from t he day site at night with 5kw without causing interference?
