KGO Age Discriminatin?

right you are michael..and they were so upset and confused when the ratings came out...having gone from number 2 to number one during my tenure. They also asked men in a focus group..and the jury in the first trial heard the evidence...asked men which female anchor they wanted to f**k...I kid you not..the men in the focus group didn't answer..so the Media Associates 'RESEARCHER"...goaded them on..C'mon guys you all know christine craft is a mutt isn't she""" once again dead silence...but Steve Meachum..the so called media expert then claimed that because the men did not say they wanted to f**k me more than they wanted to f**k other anchorettes in the region..that was a negative for me...REally the actual research which we were privy to in the discovery process in federal court was so funny..so twisted..in a business which is supposed to serve the public interest, need, and necessity..that I just had to ..write a book..I have no regrets. I believe that you have to choose your battles. You can't fight all of them..Some of them...you really must or you'll regret it forever. People have asked me how I had the"courage" to sue what was then Metromedia..My answer to this day is still....When you've seen real sharks the corporate ones don't scare you as much.....really.

I also don't think that you have to be in a prized demographic yourself to be a successful talk show host. You don't get interesting really..until you have some life experiences to get interesting about..some perspective..yes?

Exactly. I look forward to your guest shots and whatever other gigs you can line up. And please talk about your surfing sometime! It's something I've always wanted to do but was too chicken to do.

The conversation here of "deferential" vs. "differential" was very entertaining,
particularly for a board dedicated to transmission.

Absolutely! How can you intelligently discuss virtually any subject without having learned life's lessons.

The twenty-something kids I work with don't know much about anything...AND don't want to work...period! They want the decent money I make, but don't want to work for it. Sounds like most occupoo-ers.

By the way, I don't work full-time in radio now. I left the biz after starving in several small markets. I do engineering work in the telecommunications industry, and still climb the occasional telephone pole. I climbed one yesterday. I've been a cable guy for over 20 years, not 5 minutes like Larry the Cable Guy. :-*

Yes. Isn't the deferential that thing under my car that makes the wheels turn?

;D

The corporate station buying and selling did not effect the line up till now. The ratings were down anyway and they had to try something different or just accept lower ratings. I bet if they see the news tanking, they will phase in more talk.

If you work a ratings per dollar analysis, people like some of those let go probably did not cut it.

Instead of broadcasting from Santa Cruz, Dr. B should broadcast from the nuke plant to the south.

Do people want to hear that much personal stuff? We heard about Dr. Bills dad, Craft's dad and dogs, Burn's brother, Rothman's kids, Karel's husband, Owen's mother, father, kids....but too much of that gets boring.

as my editor at the Paris Review once told me....Write about the things you know...that advice has some validity in talk rado also..yes?

It depends if people listen to the radio in order to learn more about the host, or if they listen to talk radio for information about themselves.
