KGOL applies to diplex with KGOW

Update: The KGOL STA application to diplex at the KGOW night site was approved by the FCC today.

Still awaiting KGOL’s application for a permanent facility at the KGOW night site.

Is kgol even on the air?
Nothing heard on 1180 during the day at several recent checks. Previously was a very weak signal with bad audio.

I've been tuning in back-and-forth and no luck either.

I know Houston is essentially a glorified swamp where the hucksters actually managed to sell the swamp land to those who made a city out of it, but I'm surprised that land has become so valuable that multiple AM stations are cohabiting now, with some operating with inferior facilities to what they once had.

Houston’s urban sprawl has been haphazard, and we are now seeing “infill” development in areas that were ”skipped over”. Thus the high land values.

As with housing, the dirt underneath is often the most valuable thing.

when something exists to eventually just feed a translator, it doesnt matter how bad the am audio is or how pitiful the legal signal is.

Im not sure theres any law that says anything about programming/audio quality

Thread bump: K278DA 103.5, which has KGOL as its (alleged) primary, has filed a silent STA. Stated reason: “The Station is off the air due to damage and technical problems caused by Hurricane Beryl.”

Beryl was over three months ago, and K278DA has been on the air since then. However KGOL has been off the air for over six months. Could one have to do with the other, as translators aren’t supposed to operate without a primary on the air? Is this a case of “CYA”?🤔😳 Hum FM website says the station is off.

Update: KGOL has filed and been granted a Silent STA after over six months off the air. Claims damage from Hurricane Beryl, which was July 8…?🤔🫢

It's ALIVE!
And so it is; decent reception of KGOL on 1180 at an 8am check at my NW Harris County location. So it appears the temporary STA diplex from one of the KGOW night site towers is operational, as a quick DF shows the signal coming from the same direction as KGOW. The KGOL STA is for 2kw days and 100 watts nights; have not checked the night signal yet. Supposedly there will be a further filing for a permanent, higher powered diplex at the KGOW night site.
