Sounds good for a local station! The "Manley Gas" commercial is a riot! ;D

And the great thing is that we can now listen to Chuck Brinkman worldwide doing the special CHUCK-EE FORMAT!

RGM

It's a great time to be in radio!

Hello all, I am glad this group that bought KGVL 1400AM is getting update on technology. I see a BIG change at KGVL 1400AM...they are putting money and technology to work. KGVL 1400AM has been slow to change over the years to get up to date with the times. Now, I think KGVL 1400AM sales team better get to working hard to sale ads and get money coming into the station. I wish I could go back to work at KGVL again...in sports with this management team. Talk to All LATER!!!

Q: "Oh, you're in radio?"

A: "Yep, I'm in sales."

Q: "And what do you do?"

A. "I sale ads."

I listened to the online stream for a little while this morning. McCoy sounded happy. They had the "All American" PAMS jingles although I am not partial to the Sonovox. There was local news on the hour from some Hunt County something. They advertised a facebook page: ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Big-14-GVL/167182639968224?v=wall ). Although that genre is not among my favorites, I heard some good old familiar tunes. The spots reminded me that I need go and get a cow lick for my cows and then get some manly gas.

My best to them in Greenville.

They sound great, how good is 1400's signal into Dallas?

The only glitch I've heard besides having TSN farm news (on a oldies station ???) is they played a cheap remake version of the Champs "Tequila".

LibertyNT said:
When do they air TSN?
I actually haven't heard them run that since they flipped to oldies.

During the 5 am or 6 am hour. I guess it's a carryover from the country oldies format.

This is a really good sounding little station, I hope they're making some money now with the local spots. ("Man, Man, Man, Man, Man etc.. Manley Gas!") ;D

Well I don't know where they music from but somebody has a brain over there. Just heard the original "Really Saying Something." It was covered in the 80's by bananarama and fun boy 3.

Now thats a catalog!

That was the Velvelettes, a very underrated Motown act. ;D "Needle In a Haystack" is another great one by them.

Unless they are getting requests for them, I wish KGVL would leave the 70's country crossovers alone. Please NO more Kenny or Dolly, Eddie Rabbit, and John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy"!

BTW via KGVL's facebook page I found these videos. Is this the KGVL studios in Greenville? ???

Wherever it is it's in a place with no outside noise. On the second video at 2:34 the right hand door to what looks like the outside is open. I don't know about Greenville, but where I live is full of traffic noise, kids playing, sirens, and airplanes. I see in the first video there is a cat assembling the playlist. If I had a studio, the cat would no doubt be walking all over the mixer board and batting at the cursor on the computer screen every time it was time to pot down the music and talk.

I wonder if they are doing this by remote from the mysterious Murphy Manse?

--- For some reason, on this board, I can't preview my posts, so if the quote didn't work right, I apologize---

Hello All, I have watched the videos on this quote. I think I am going to have to drive to 1516 Wolfe City Dr. Greenville, TX 75401 (TX Hwy 34) on Monday. I think we are broadcasting KGVL 1400AM from Jaan Mccoy home or somebody home not at station location in Greenville. The KIKT/KGVL station is in North Greenville, TX like going to Wolfe City, TX on TX Hwy 34. I think they are ISDN or remoteing back to transmitter from some place around North TX not real station location. I guess we are going to have to find out what is going on.

Having watched the YouTube videos, I can absolutely confirm that the KGVL studio in in MCoy's Barn in Murphy - just a 2 or 3 minute walk from the "Big House" as McCoy would say.

When McCoy bought the house and land around the time of the 620 KAAM launch, the barn was in a state of disrepair - but structurally sound. After the 620 sale, he was finally able to make many improvements on the property including a complete redo of the barn, turning the upstairs hayloft into a rec room/living area.

I think it was a long time dream of his to turn it into a control room and broadcast from there. So now he walks to work. And your right, it is sound-proofed for the most part. There's nothing around there anyway in an "intrusive sound" way and it's as quiet as a tomb. I lived there for a time in 2003 and I can attest to the complete lack of ambient noise/sound.

And I also agree he sounds happy on the air. He will never come out publicly nor ever admit -other than to a VERY small circle of friends - (of whom I'm no longer part), that he must have been extemely unhappy at 770, especially after Sr. sold it to Jr. and every decision was more boneheaded than the last. It is a testament to his "diplomacy" that his parting from 770 was amicable on all sides. It was never that way with me - fired twice (2001, 2009)

I believe McCoy must have read the handwriting on the wall with the introduction of the infomercials during the Midday though I can only guess how long this deal had been in the works. And the oldies sock hop stuff that Messrs. McCoy, Foster & Brinkman are playing really is McCoy's forte anyway. He never really liked, understood or appreciated the Big Band format and his hiring of Hubcap Carter to do the Saturday Night Sock Hop on 620 after Brinkman fired Hubba from 96.7 in 1997 is just one indication of this.

I wish my old friend/adversary well. It is a superb mix of the genre and he, Brinkman and Foster carry it all off masterfully. I could do without the screamin' preachers on Sundays, though.

Be that as it may, I've caught myself listening now and then on the weekdays and it's oldies radio at it's best. I think everyone should do what makes them happy. If you're good at it and can make money with it - so much the better.

Thanks for explaining that. I thought it was someone's home studio. Very cool! I'd love to be able to do the same. I guess except for the screaming preachers (helps pay the bills) that all of KGVL's programming is now originating from McCoy's barn now.

I wish them luck, I wish this format was on a stronger signal that covered the whole metro during the day.

Hello all, Now, I have a few questions. What are they doing with the station building in Greenville, TX??? Did they move all the KIKT 93.5 stuff to Cooper, TX studio and staff??? Is the KIKT/KGVL building closed in Greenville??? What is going on now??? How are they running the stations with no office staff??? A lot of questions are coming with these videos.

Dan, this is just a guess but I'm thinkin' Jim Patrick is still at the studios on the FM every morning and aside from the shifts done in Jaan's barn, everything else at KGVL/KIKT is proceeding business as usual. The only thing that has changed is Jaan, Ron & Chuck don't have to drive to Greenville to do their shifts.

Does life in radio get much better than that???

KGVL 1400AM Real Studio Location?????

I see a station license problem!!! If Jaan McCoy is running KGVL 1400AM live studio in Murphy, TX. They need to ID KGVL 1400AM Murphy/Greenville, TX or McCoy's remote studio location?? Studio is in Murphy, TX..with transmitter in Greenville, TX. Are they thinking about moving transmitter around in Hunt or Collin County. Could McCoy group file with FCC to move transmitter out of North Greenville to someplace in Western Hunt County or Collin County. Now, is old KIKT studio/office running as KGVL business office for sales marketing. This is so so crazy to run a local radio station to serve Greenville/Hunt County residents this way that is stated in your FCC license.

I know in the video that they are driving on US 75 north bound in Plano, TX. (Between 15th and Parker RD)

The "official" studio is still in Greenville. Think of it as a 12 hour "remote" five (or six) days a week.
They are not going to (can't) move the AM transmitter anywhere. There is a CP to move the FM north to Delta County (where it will not cover any significant population... thank you, Susquahana!).

Dan, read it again:
