KHFI

I'm pretty disapointed in KHFI I dont know if its just me or not, but they play way to much hiphop and a lot less top 40. The HD-2 channel sux it plays the same thing. Anyone else feel this way?

Look at the top billboard 100 chart. It is mostly Hip Hop. Some people are even saying Hip Hop has branched out into a new genre called Hip Pop, which is exactly what top 40 stations play.

the last time was really involved to listening to a station was from 1997-2001, ocassionally i see what is still on.
thanks captex.

Yeah, I've noticed that. KRBE in Houston does play some Hip-Hop, but not as much as KHFI. I was wondering the same thing a while back too. I thought it was just me.

If I remember correctly-- In Austin more people listen to Hip Hop (Hot 93 & the Beat combined) than CHR so KHFI may be trying to woo a segment that likes Hip Hop... and more.

you make a good point however when you have two stations completely dedicated to playing nothing but Hip Hop, a top 40 with a Hip Hop lean might be a little too much. In my opinion KHFI should be leaning away from it.

I disagree with everyone. The rhythmic stations in Austin underperform. One of the reasons is because KHFI leans rhythmic. If KHFI played less hip hop, some of their audience would go searching for it elsewhere. My guess is 18-34 females like the mix of music on KHFI, they want some hip hop but not as hardcore as the rhythmics play. However if KHFI shifted more pop/rock, some of these women would drift over to the rhythmics. KHFI is in a good situation right now, playing less hip hop only creates opportunity for other stations.

Even though it wont happen, I think they should add more dance music to their format.. Just wishful thinking... :(

Yeah that would be cool. But like you said it wont happen. I think it could work in a city like Austin.
