KHTC 107.5 Calls Now KGLK

Anyone know why KHTC 107.5 has changed its calls to KGLK earlier this week? The FCC CDBS database shows the calls changed May 17. Planning a flip?

They're still K-Hits for now. I expect more of a re-imaging to "The Eagle" than an outright flip. Several of Cox's ex-oldies stations are running classic rock as "The Eagle," and most of them have calls with "GL" in them.

Well there's a change in the playlist. They're playing Somebody's Baby by Jackson Brown, which is from 1982. Looks like the Point will shift to 107.5, now what will become of 106.9?

They have been playing more early 80's for a while now. There was a thread a few months back about this and at that time it was said that the shift was just a natrural progression, not really a flip. With all the talent changes, who knows what Cox is up to?

Probably right...I would guess the upcoming Memorial Day weekend would be the timing of any change. My thoughts on the calls were "Eagle," "Lake," or "Gulf"....

Keep in mind that Dean and Rog are set to debut on 107.5 effective 6/1/2009. Perhaps a moniker change is in the works ahead of their debut with Cox?

Along with adding 80's music; I noticed from Midnight through 7 AM that no Motown was played or any R & B for that matter ("Low Rider" by War was the closest to R & B during that time period). They also played such numbers as "Cocaine" and "Who Are You". 107.5 has definitely moved in the WJGL/WSFR/103.3 out of Tulsa Classic Hits/Rock direction.

Will we see KKRW move in an all Classic Rock direction like KZEP and drop the last vestiges of Classic Hits from the playlist. 106.9 may stay as is (they may have set the mark for most format change speculations at least on my part), but an 18-34 format coupled with "The Eagle" could make for a good combo.

This leaves the classic hits/classic top 40/oldies hole open for KBME to flip to real oldies. KGBC is now our oldies or whatever its called the station for that by default. They have a better playlist than KHTC did anyway....

With Mix getting the "colon-cleansing" effect by CBS, 106.9 should go Urban or Alternative, or at least rebrand that poor station. Don't they know that "The Point" moniker has a stigma on it?

I'd say someone at Cox should sober up and flip 106.9 to an urban and give The Box or Majic some sort of competition again. I dunno bout flipping to alternative since cumulus mite do something alternative-like to 103.7 based on recent changes over there, name-like and all.

I smell smoke.

Note they only reserved the domain for a year.

This is the same company that signed on The Point as KZJZ just so they could say Jazzy 1069 and play Kenny G for 30 seconds before launching The Point.

Watch for the smokescreen. They're making this too easy on purpose.

Urban may be an option, but keep in mind the last time Cox flipped a station with a tower 35 miles out of a downtown area to an Urban format was when they flipped WFOX FM in Atlanta from Oldies to Urban. Their attempt to battle WVEE was an unmitigated disaster.

True, but Houston and Atlanta are two different places. Atlanta has 5 urbans while we have just 2 for a city that is known for some of its hip hop and r&b artists. By the way, how far is the Missouri City stick from Downtown???

Right about 15 miles southwest. But K-Hits' tower is about 10 miles south of Alvin, making it around 35 miles from downtown. At 95,000 watts on a 2,000-foot tower, that signal has no problem penetrating the entire metro.

Cox could easily pick up Big Boy's Neighborhood, the last morning show KPTY had, and go from there. There is definitely room for another rocker, urban, or even a soft AC.

BTW:Who would be first to state this in a story or thread title:Houston, the Eagle has landed.....

i hear cox is very happy with their "suburban" formats. theyre tweakin khits for d&r arrival and da point to take advantage of the anti classic rock wanderers. staying the course at 93q and legends cuz they work.

urban at cox. not anytime soon.
