KHTC 107.5 Calls Now KGLK

>This leaves the classic hits/classic top 40/oldies hole open for KBME to flip to real oldies. KGBC is now our oldies or whatever its called the station for that by default. They have a better playlist than KHTC did anyway<

Yeah - Right - KGBC - The station that can't make it past the Galveston Causeway is surely Houston's real true Oldies station!

Judging by the format, and where it can be heard, yes it is. Consider it an AM rimshot from the south.

It's a shame KGBC doesn't cover the entire Houston area, the music they are playing is great. I was in the Clear Lake area on Thursday and I enjoyed listening to them and KSHN 99.9 from Liberty County, who has filled the void in the Soft AC format, since KODA has decided to start playing stuff like Nickelback and Creed. I just wished I could get both of them in the Copperfield area where I live.

When Cox signed Dean & Rog, I thought this might happen. I don't understand this market. Why we continue to recycle formats that other stations struggle with?! KKRW isn't necessarily burning down the house with great numbers. I'm sure they are happy with their target demos, but it's nothing to brag about. Yet, Active Rock, a format Cox does well with in San Antonio, still goes unfulfilled in this market. And, it gets the key younger demos (the 18-34's) that we are told the advertisers are so fond of these days. Sadly, Oldies have gone the way of Standards and Smooth Jazz. It is a dead format. None of the companies seem to be interested in the 35-64 demos anymore, even though they make most of the major purchases. Go figure ???. I can honestly say I have never been more irritated with any radio market, the way I am with the Houston-Galveston market right now.

I'd say someone at Cox should sober up and flip 106.9 to an urban and give The Box or Majic some sort of competition again.

i hear cox is very happy with their "suburban" formats. theyre tweakin khits for d&r arrival and da point to take advantage of the anti classic rock wanderers. staying the course at 93q and legends cuz they work.

urban at cox. not anytime soon.

toonville

yeah you're right. cox has been very satisfied with their low numbers on 106.9 for years. mite as well keep swinging em low, huh? ::)

Now that I've lived here for almost two years, I realize how truly stagnant that station is. I used to listen online when I lived in Ohio because my hometown (Columbus) long ago lost its all-80s station, and with very few exceptions the Point's playlist now is the same as it was then (2004-05)! I truly do not understand how any station can remain that way for that long.
As for 107.5, at least they're now giving the start date for Dean and Rog. They'd been saying "soon" forever in those liners that could be recorded anytime and are a total waste of the talents' talents.
Off my soapbox now. :)

In your words, yeah right. You obviously don't listen to 1540. By no means do they stick to oldies, but at the same time they cover Galveston County like a blanket and are quite listenable in much of Houston. I hope they don't decide to target Houston because this county could benefit from a real local station, but I don't take anything for granted in the world of radio.

There was a time when Galvestonians could choose from 4 Galveston County radio station:

920 KTLW now KYST Texas City
1400 KILE now KHCB
1540 KGBC still KGBC
106.5 KUFO now KOVE

Yes, there should be a Galveston station. There are two FM stations which could easily be a Galveston station; 97.5 and 103.7. Of course, that's not going to happen.

Although very weak, I can get KGBC on the west side of Houston.

While it's impossible to receive KGBC at home, on the car radio I have found it strong enough for the seek feature to stop at it as far north as Spring. If you can't get it past the causeway, you might want to save up for a new radio.

I heard a promo for a new giveaway for the new Eagles boxset. "Call in all weekend when you hear an Eagles song..."

the Eagle has landed, Eagle 1075.....

What will happen to KevinC - I know that scott sparks is going to afternoon drive - but will kevin still be on the air? perhaps going back to mid-days???

Unless things have recently changed, Kevin will be leaving when Scott Sparks makes the jump to evenings. He will be missed.

I believe you'll be seeing a lot more changes to 107.5 after the switch to the Eagle. Everything from presentation, to air talent, and a lot more different music than the old K-HITS. Forget 107.5 playing classic hits - the format is now classic rock. Looks like a head on battle with the Arrow.

If they go straight classic rock, then maybe we can finally get some healthy counter-programming for a change!! ---"We play this!!! The OTHER guys don't!!! Cuz we rock!" ...How 'bout a little of that!

Since K-Hits "updated" its play list it basically just plays less oldies and more Arrow re-hash classic rock songs.

Perhaps now we can get an alternative to the corporate play list of the same 3 Aerosmith songs everyday! Maybe something a bit more modern with a more updated, harder edge (or at least deeper) playlist... Eagle please surprise me!! Let's finally get a rocker Houston!
