KIFR/KEAR Call Letters

The FCC (or was it Family Stations?) may have jumped the gun on the call letter change of 106.9 FM to KIFR -- the call letters no longer come up in the FCC database, and the station is still listed as KEAR.

Along the same line, 610 AM has gone back to being listed as KFRC in the FCC database.

Anybody know what's going on? Did Family decide to hold off on renaming 106.9 because Infinity is about ready to go?

Posted in ba.broadcast: The call letter switch will take place at noon on Monday, October 17. It reportedly involves 106.9 becoming KIFR, 610 becoming KEAR(AM), and KEDR/88.1 in Sacramento becoming KEAR-FM.

No information yet on whether the change will have anything to do with Infinity taking over 106.9, though.

FOLLOW-UP: Infinity & 106.9...

John Tefertiller (http://www.fuzzyfaraway.com) posted the following in the ba.broadcast newsgroup, in case any of you missed it, regarding 610 and 106.9:

{snip}
The call signs will change at midnight Sunday. It is not known yet if Family Radio programming will continue on 106.9 until noon under the new call sign or if it will cease at midnight with the call change.

Whatever the case, Infinity will (if all goes according to plan) start their programming at noon Monday.

Regarding actual transfer of control and closing of the deal, I've heard
various things, but I can't speak authoritatively until it's public
knowledge (at which point my knowledge would be moot anyway, no?).
{end snip}

I don't recall whether John also posts to this group, and I apologize if I'm duplicating info unnecessarily.

Inf will be starting soon. Kohl hired his former Programming Assistant from CC this week. Here's betting Kohl will be the PD, GM title or not.

Re: DARIAN MADE IT BACK TO TOWN

Say 'hello' to Adam Carolla in the mornings and Darian o'Toole from 10a to 1p...Don't know the rest though...

Remember, collins, that deejayman thinks Christopher Lance never existed. He has no credibility, is best ignored, and will eventually get himself banned.
______________

Okay, let me say, I never liked Darian O'Toole, and, unless she has changed ALOT, after sampling her, I will probably never listen to her time slot again.

But, with that being said, I like the direction 106.9 is going in then. Local host with something to say.

I do think Corolla is a very funny guy and might do a very good show.

My question is, since he will not be on till January, what will they do till then (and, please, please, no one respond with the Doghouse).

I'm surprised someone hasn't brought up Armstrong & Getty again. :)

I will proudly admit that I mentioned Armstrong and Getty the first time around in these 106.9 posts. But before you spin my words around, I will remind you of what my post said...

I had stated that Mr. Kohl might jockey to put A&G into play on 106.9.

Will it happen? No, A&G are in a contract and based on there under performing KNEW ratings, there isn't anything driving Infinity to buy out that contract. Would A&G even think of moving to SF? Probably not, BUT that doesn't rule out Infinity building a remote studio in Sacto to accommodate them.

This will not happen for 106.9's launch, but you can bet Kohl has talked to A&G and at the completion of there contract with Clear Channel Sacramento; they will be made some type of an offer.

If you're curious about my previous posts, see below:

Agreed! There's a MUCH better chance that Mr. Kohl will try to pull away Armstrong and Getty from CC. I'm not putting my own credibility on the line for that one, just trying to make a point.

Oh hell, they'll probably end up making it a Top40/CHR station! :)

You're correct, A&G are under contract and considering the fact that A&G are still on the air with CC, we can all rest assured that they will not be part of the launch line up (I was just trying to make a point).

However don't discredit Mr. Kohl, he knows his stuff and I'm sure he's aware of all the in stipulations and/or outs on the A&G contract.

If Infinity and Mr. Kohl did get A & G to leave Sacramento are they going to give them a TV gig to go along with the radio slot? If not, why would they want to leave Sacramento? And besides is San Francisco all that much
better a place to work? Is it really? Seems to me that A & G both have very long roots here in Sacramento! Infinity is way too flakey to trust for any long term gig with an untried format on FM that will need at least two years to find it's audience! Sacramento looks alot more stable a place to work! Why leave?

whoa, sister, what is so freakin wrong with stating one's opinion on these here boards???? I realize that christopher lance was on KFRC, but since I don't listen to KFRC how the hell am I sopossed to know who he is, it's not like he made a "name" for himself like the greats: dr. don rose, john london, howard stern, chuey gomez, the doghouse, don bleu, rick chase, evan luck, renel, L&T, Big Rick Stuart, rick dees, and sooo on. Yes, bay area radio has some excellent talent and they have some awful talent, In my opinion, san francisco radio is just not what it used to be, could be, and SHOULD be, it just plain sucks right now, and bringing back darian o'toole is like bringing back gene and juile, it ain't gonna fly. And you can't ban me or anyone else for stating his or her's opinion, your just on a power trip.......hell, las vegas radio is waaayyy better than SF right now, and that says alot!!!!

if adam is going to 106.9???

then could that mean the doghouse could go to live 105??? And whatever happened to their whereabouts after the audition in LA????

Ouch. If I were one of th etruly memorable talents to have been on the air in San Francisco, being lumped with the, uh, doghouse, would make me vilolently ill.

Remember why it went off the air: sucky ratings.

Then you had no business posting a comment in that thread at all.

You cannot have an "opinion" about someone you have never listened to.
______________

Yes, absolutely. You haven't heard? Infinity thinks that The Doghouse is so crazy good that they are planning to run them 24 hours a day on Live 105, plus simulcast them on Alice, with special "Doghouse Minutes" on KCBS as well as podcasts on KYCY.

Heads are set to roll at Clear Channel, where management was blind-sided by Infinity's decision. CC was reportedly ready to spend "whatever it takes" to bring The Doghouse in to host "any shift on any -- or all -- of our stations," according to the cousin of a friend of a source that I spoke with. "People are simply in love with The Doghouse," I was told. "Listeners think they are the doggone greatest!"

Infinity's offer to The Doghouse was reportedly in the high seven digits (not counting the decimal point and the pennies) for two years.

"Whatever happened to their whereabouts" after the L.A. audition is that nearly every station in the Southland fired their entire air teams immediately and began an unprecedented bidding war to secure their rights via syndication. Expect them to take over on either KFI, Star, Coast, KABC, Jack, Power or KTNQ in the next few days.

Radio executives in L.A. simply had to check all the Doghouse-related fan mail posted on Radio-Info.com to confirm they were making the right decision.

Meanwhile, "word is" that every station in New York City is planning to make multi-million dollar offers to unleash The Doghouse on the Big Apple. K-Rock is seriously considering them to replace Howard Stern when he leaves.

The ghost of Marconi has been quoted as saying "The Doghouse: now *that's* why I invented this thing called radio!"

(Excuse me while I go remove my tongue from my cheek.)

You have it all wrong.

Sirius just bought out Stern, giving him his whole 1/2 billion, to secure the rights to the Doghouse and give them Stern's 2 channels. They also had to give JV $500,000,001.

It has to be true. Some guy at Best Buy selling me the system told me so.
