KIGS Update

The war is over. The family members have agreed to whom gets what. One of the family members gets KIGS and the 40 acre "radio farm" that the two towers sit on along with the license and the old studios, building and equipment.

The new owner plans to be back on the air within the next 90 days with a new radio format. Insiders say some sort of talk format, but what do they know for sure ??

This station will be back on the air and off the air within a year. The 40 acre farm is worth much more than the radio station or its license.
And the family owner wants to much CASH.

Why would they go off the air within a year?

Why would KIGS go broke within a year or so ??? All radio and TV sales are way low. AM stations are billing at the bottom. KIGS does have a good signal and a low frequency -- but no power. Stations in Portland, Oregon and Phoenix, Arizona on 620 often clobber KIGS at night. It will cost money for the new programming. Owning an AM radio station is not a money making enterprise in most cases. There is no "Special Radio Program" that is not now provided by other local radio stations in the greater Hanford area. There are very few reasons to buy an ad on KIGS.

If Kigs was on at night you wouldent hear Arizona unless you might be outside of their night pattern

Where are you?

KIGS sounds as good as KMJ in Bakersfield night or day, and sounds better than KERN or KJUG-AM in Fresno, night or day.

CC should buy this station for powertalk. All of Kings County is underserved by 96.7 and 1400 is strictly Visalia and Tulare (clobbered by everywhere in Tulare) at night.

I sure hope 620 gets the dodgers, shame you can't here Vin Scully south of Fresno

Has KTIP ever tried baseball?
oh yes. Was once owned by some MLB jock - Not bein' a fan, I don't recall if it was Dodgers or Angels that KTIP had, but was one of them. Dodgers, I do believe.
