KIIS FM 102.7

Correct. This goes back to a 1999 investment by Clear Channel in XM. As part of that investment, CC received channel space for a number of their most popular stations. I think the original number of stations was 10. This dropped after the Sirius-XM merger. KIIS may be the last one.
Most of the outside stations and shared revenue channels disappeared when XM removed commercials from music channels. That included the Clear Channel stations, and the 5 HBC channels and a couple from Radio One.

If they want to put their content on Sirius XM, they might as well pay out KISS San Antonio and get the call letters.

The actual call letters being KISS doesn't mean squat. KIIS is fine, so are WXKS, WKSS and all those other stations using the "Kiss" branding because listeners remember the word "Kiss" and don't care how it's spelled in the legal ID, which is the only time the station bothers to use the call letters (or, in KISS's case, spell them out).

I know this is a Houston forum, but how big is this KIIS Fm? I’m asking because yesterday on my job they gave us a new Nissan Vehicle which comes with SIRIUS XM I’m assuming as a trial.
And it has KIIS FM on one of the satellite channels.

I think it’s the only FM radio station on Sirius.

Amd today I was messing with Apple Music and I noticed it has an option for local radio. And KIIS was on that list.

And well why would it be on that list if I’m not anywhere close to CALIFORNIA?
KIIS 102-7 has been on XM since 2012, as far as I know.

Z100 out of NY used to be on XM, but I don't see it in the lineup anymore, but it was there at least until 2020.

Yup, they're still on SiriusXM here in 2022, I think channel 12 or 13, and it has to be that it still gets the ratings. It is a de-facto super-station with a star-studded lineup. Also, having SiriusXM on your phone defeats the whole purpose of having SiriusXM, unless you make your own station that combines with Pandora (does SXM still let you do that?), hence why KIIS is on the satellite feed, allowing drivers nationwide to hear them more directly than having your radio pair with Bluetooth, and then with Wi-fi or data, and either the app or the website.

Channel 14. Under the *More* category, KIIS-FM is on Channel 14, behind Pitbull's Globalization and ahead of Mosaic.

Thank you. I just realized that after checking my Truck, definitely oops right there. It's been a while since I've been on my SiriusXM account.

Yes.

Also, isn't there an L.A. board on this forum? If so, why is it still under the Houston board?

Strange to keep KIIS-FM over Z100, considering Z carries both Elvis Duran and Ryan Seacrest. And many Americans live in the Eastern Time Zone.
And SiriusXM, like independent Sirius before it, is New York City-based and has shown New York/East Coast bias in its programming decisions over the years.

I think the point of bringing it up here is to question whether iHeart benefits from having KIIS/LA streamed in Houston where they have no CHR station but can frag a competitor through that stream.

Theoretically one can get Iheart 's KISS-FM from Dallas or KHFI-FM Via dashboard app on newer cars. But thats on the other side of the state and may not be necessarily where Houston audiences want to go to.

Houston most likely the CHR is from Cumulus owned KRBE.

But KISS-FM is a Brand for Iheart's own CHR/Top40 stations or Hot AC Stations and in some cases country and R&B stations

And here is a more interesting one WMRZ-FM uses the old KISQ-FM logo for their edition of Kiss-FM.

Not that the average listener cares much on how other cities approach the "mass appeal" format, but it's still interesting that KRBE takes a conservative Adult CHR approach, in contrast to the mainstream approaches of KHKS and KHFI. (And DFW, home of KHKS, is as conservative as the Houston metro.) Even other Cumulus CHRs like KKMG and WWWQ are not as conservative as KRBE.

KRBE still plays songs like NF's Let You Down, Imagine Dragons' Believer, and Shawn Mendes's Treat You Better regularly. Very gold heavy playlist, especially in the daytime. Even 2000s pop rock songs from the likes of Maroon 5 and P!nk get played from time to time.

I'm sure they have their reasons. But with the massive domestic migration we have seen this past decade, you'd figure something has got to give.

I guess when you have no competition, you're not going to try new things.

Let's not forget Houston's own short lived Kiss-FM iterations.

iHeartRadio leased a translator and put this on the air to better compete with UrbanOne;

And before that, Clear Channel also operated "Kiss 98-5, Kiss Again 103-3".

Checked both KRBE and WWWQ on Thursday, and both seemed to be playing 2-3 golds an hour during the daytime. This is currently a doldrum period for the format, so playing a bit more gold than usual to fill the playlist makes sense

Except in L.A. the highly visible station logo and all the branding is KIIS so yes they are spelling out the station name with the legal call letters, and the audience identifies the radio station brand pronounced "kiss" with that unique and memorable KIIS spelling.

However, even during the peak of CHR circa 2008-2012, KRBE (along with WWWQ) has been an Adult CHR. KRBE would play 90s pop rock tracks like Iris, If It Makes You Happy, 3AM, and Tubthumping during the late-00s, and not once in a while either.

Although WWWQ does play some gold today, these golds are mostly rhythmic, making WWWQ a regular mainstream CHR. KRBE, on the other hand, plays a good amount of pop rock gold, like they have always been the past 15 years or so. Moreso Maroon 5 than Panic! At the Disco.

Also remember that the PD of KRBE is Cumulus's head of programming for the Hot AC format (or at least she was).
