Kimmer on air says he's been given police report

The anti-war protester who Kimmer said he beat up has filed a police report against him for the fracas last Friday after the Vet Day's parade. Supposedly, he's a Coz Carson listener and spoke to Coz over at 1380 about it.

Kimmer is naturally defiant:

At 4:50 p.m. he told the WGST audience: "He's looking for the attention. He's a psycho. Frankly, I'm trying to put this behind me. He's not allowing this to happen. I'm not taking this lying down. This is crap. I'll defend myself. He's going to try to ruin my life and cost me money. Let's dance. I will defend myself. I'll keep you posted."

I've got to go tomorrow to the police dept. and find this police report.

Tune in Thursday's at 9 for Rodney Ho, Radio-Police-Detective-Reporter. He'll get the story AND the police report!

The only way Ho would look the other way is if Kimmer still worked for Cox.

Or Air America.

;)

Kimmer is making a serious charge. I have nothing against him. I'm sure he got into a fight. But wouldn't anybody with any sense of fairness prefer to have as many perspectives as possible when it's something of this nature? This isn't like a radio prank or a radio promotion. This is two 50-something guys getting into a fistfight on a public street. And if you think I'd look the other way if he worked at Cox Radio, you don't know me.

Come on Jimbo. This is journalism 101. It's not a reporter's job to "believe" a story, it's his job to look at the record of what happened and report the facts. What kind of a reporter would Rodney be if he just printed whatever the Kimmer told him without looking at the police report?

If Kim milks it right, this could lead to a nice little local radio drama buzz (something he hasn't had in years) and some ratings (something else he hasn't had in years)!

Go Kimmer---herp!

That's hilarious. I'm surprised someone didn't break their hip as a result of this fracas.

Quick quiz, which one of us has a Journalism degree?

What kind of reporter is Rodney Ho? I had to tell him <u>how</u> to find the police report! True story. I guess my crappy education at Columbia College Chicago is better than his Princeton University education. Wait a minute...Ivy League, East Coast, Rodney Ho is part of the Liberal Mainstream Media Elite. No wonder he doesn't believe Kimmer.

Kimmer is in a Catch-22 situation. If he admits to beating this guy up he faces criminal charges, a fine and possible time in the hoosegow. If he says that the protester kicked his butt, Kimmer faces scorn and ridicule for not being the tough guy he claims to be on the air. Either way Kimmy gets it up the pooper.

If Kimmer is found guilty, will Clear Channel suspend or fire him? Look at what Infinity did to Porsche Foxx.

Finally...I have the Journalism degree; Rodney has a degree in Economics.<P ID="signature">______________

I'm afraid I dont know you, with all due respect.

But I do know some things
A:the nutbag that got into it with the Kimmer is a well known regular caller to Newkirk or Carson's show, a man who fervently believes that The Pope is evil, the Bush family had Kennedy killed, and the black helicopters are on thier way. That's being fair. Go and listen to the 'perspective' of a man that say's Bush planned 9-11, the turd that goes to 'protest' on Veteran's Day.
B: The people who sign your checks bought out thier main print competitor and closed them down rather then compete. I'm sure your a nice guy, but I bet you would get both sides of the story with a Cox personality involved in a fistfight BEFORE you go to print, even if just a gossip column.Maybe I'm wrong..

I would have waited a few days to see if the police filed a report and then go talk to the other guy, THEN write something about it, rather then just report what the Kimmer said and leave the impression that you 'couldn't confirm it'.

Until the police report is out all you have in this case are the simple babblings of a couple of small bore idiots looking for attention.

The police report

I have never covered cops in my life.

Anyway, here's what the police officer C.L. Leeks wrote in the police report, based on the account of William Stack Jones under the topic "simple assault." It occurred at about 12:25 p.m. November 11 at Peachtree Road and Beverly Rd., in the shadow of WSB. The Kimmer was described by Jones as age 30 to 35, height of 6'2''-6'3'' and weighting 275 to 280 pounds. The Kimmer himself is close to 60 years old and isn't that heavy.

"I was dispatched to the above location in reference to a male being assaulted. Upon my arrival, I spoke with Mr. William Jones who stated that he was walking from the Veterans Day parade with his dog and holding up his sign that said 'Bush did 9/11" and a male in a dark color (sic), possibly a Builk, yelled out at him and started calling him names. Mr. Jones stated that he yelled back and threatened to spit on the suspects car and that's when the suspect jumped out and started beating him.

Mr. Jones stated that the suspect knocked him to the ground and started stomping him and his shoulder was jerked out of place, then he jumped back into his vehicle and pulled off. Last seen north on Peachtree.

Mr. Jones stated that he was going to the doctor to have himself checked out to make sure that his shoulder was alright.

There was nothing more to report in reference to this incident at this time."

You have a good point that I probably should have waited until the police report was available before reporting it in the paper. But it has nothing to do with whether he was working for Cox or anybody else for that matter.

If this had been Boortz involved in a fistfight with an anti-war protestor, I'm pretty sure you would have interviewed the guy and got the police report BEFORE you went to print. You did not extend the same courtesy to Kimmer. 'Nuff said.

I respectfully disagree.

If Boortz had gone on the air and said that he had beat up an ant-war protester it would be a national story because he is syndicated many stations besides Cox stations.

It would have been on the Drudge Report on the wires. No one would have looked at the police report right away. At some point they would have printed it when they found it.

It is news when a talk show host makes a claim on the air he was in a fist fight with someone.

It is a judgement call but it is too juicy of a story to wait on a police report when Kimmer is already dicussing on it the radio. And this is all good publicity for the Kimmer. Most of his listeners think that beating up an ant-war protester at a veterans day parade is a good thing. Kimmer may get some national exposure out of it.

If Rodney could have found the guy and the police report that would have been ideal. But no one knew there was a police report or who the guy was for several days.

But is fun to pick on the radio reporter so feel free to continue. Hopefully, Rodney has a thick skin.

What's all this fuss over an "Ant-War Protester." Who cares if the ants go to war. I say let them. If they do then maybe we can all enjoy our picnics in peace.
