KING 5's new look

Here's a funny: The lingering lower third (that's what it is) says "KING COUNTY SWAT DEPUTY ARRESTED". That's on a widescreen set. If you still watch on a legacy TV, and you're not in letterbox, guess what got cropped off?

One more thing: "I'm Linda Byron reporting in Seattle." No, she's Linda Byron reporting from the ROOF. Can we please stop doing that to her? The studio's big enough, and there's a seat or two that's not being used.

Oh, never mind. They'll never get it.

What is King 5? Is that some sort of national network that's not on my cable system?

What's happening is that a lot of Seattle threads are getting dumped into National TV. It's becoming a catch-all.

On RD, unlike TVNewsTalk, there's more of a running precedent that the National TV forum is for issues relating to television on a national level. TVNT has the General TV board, but it serves as a catch-all for national television moves and for moves in the 206 markets for which TVNT doesn't have a dedicated forum. For instance, in General TV, there have been threads devoted to particular stories from St. Louis, Phoenix, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Detroit, Columbus, etc.

This topic was originally posted in the Seattle radio board, but it got pushed to National TV because there is no Seattle TV board.

More notes on KING 5. Two KPNX reporters appears on KING 5 News at 10pm: William Pitts on 911 tapes from the Grayhound bus crash in AZ and Joe Dana's series on the Rio World Cup. Interesting!

NWCN has changed their news music, and I am not a real fan of the graphics. Have to squint to see the weather that is usually at the bottom (pre-Gannett, the blue weather bar that changed cities every 5 seconds or so) and a lot of crap down there in those graphics as well.

Of course, the building is located in Seattle. So, while on the ROOF, Linda or any other reporter would technically be in Seattle. ;)

I've had several eye surgeries over the past few years and I can't really read Gannett's ticker at the very bottom (so far not feature on the KING 5 newscasts that I've watched but is prominent on KPNX).

Just saw the KING news for the first time tonight. It looks awful. Whats with the hosts having to stand up in front of the news desk?

Should have said "Reporting live from Dexter Ave, Linda Byron, KING-5 News." Obviously that is where she is.

Gannett - "We're Cheap as Hell and We Love It!"

In Phoenix, the "9th Floor Newsroom" used to contain employees of the Arizona Republic before they laid off most of them. To Gannett's credit, they did offer a rather generous retirement package to long-time employees of the Republic (over 6 months of pay).
