KISC opts for Voice Tracking=J.J. Hemingway out

My good friend, J.J. Hemingway was replaced by voice tracking out of NY today at KISC (KISS) Spokane. He was notified prior to his show today. He's a talented personality! Another casualty of automation with Cheap Channel. What's with the most talented air people getting the boot? He'll be missed for the time-being as Spokane's "Radio Pal".

RR

OMG WOW! He does regularly post here! To J.J.: what happened???

No surprise, really. Last year CC did hour-by-hour ratings for all stations, and those personalities who didn't rate in the top 3 were slated for RIFfing, to be replaced by CC "Premium Choice" talent.

But they keep reminding us "OUR PEOPLE ARE OUR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET"
and then they RIF some more of their "important assets".

Actually I don't think they are even PRETENDING to fool anyone anymore.

"OUR PEOPLE ARE OUR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET"....as they say that through forked tongues......Yeah, RIGHT. And I'm Lady Gaga.

Sorry to hear the news JJ. Unfortunately, more of this will come down with CC. The 2012 budgets have been approved and are now in motion.

The "Premium Choice" rhetoric is just nonsense.

...and so what happens when their "Premium Choice" canned dog food voicetrackers don't measure up? Do THEY get shafted?

Because "Rich Kaminski" has some awfully BIG shoes to fill.

I'm hoping some Seattle station picks JJ up.

It's only been around 24 hours since I got the news. It was very short and businesslike--around 90 seconds in and out. 14 years is a long run....be nice to stay in Spokane, but if a nice opportunity presents itself....then so be it. I'm a pro, know my programming(AC-Hot AC-Classic Hits), the music and what good radio is. Hopefully someone will give me the opportunity to utilize my skills. Contact me at 509-465-1850, or [email protected]. mp3 aircheck available immediately, just like I am!

You're one of the coolest guys on the radio. And dedicated. I thought for sure no matter what happened to Clear Channel itself, you'd still be there because even THEY could see how valuable you are.

But then again, Clear Channel is a conglomerate that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Best of luck JJ.

That totally sucks J.J. I listened to you on KJR FM in Seattle in the early 2000's before they ruined the station...for the second time in a decade. It would be great for you to land a gig west of the mountains again. You'd be great on KMCQ if / when they ever add live talent! Good luck to you!

Thanks for the kind words...I had a nice about a 6 year run at KJR-FM. Bob Case was the best to work for and with. Heidi May was super and Ric Hansen is a class act. Miss those days a lot. And it's just been 2 days and I already miss being on the air....but that will change....I have much to offer a broadcast company in terms of knowledge, talent and ability--I don't say this in a cocky way. But i DO know what good radio is and how to execute it! I do stay busy with my production company www.cbsspokane1.com But I really wanna be back on the air. It IS me, it's what I do, have a passion for and love!!

I do agree with Toonces, J.J.. Even if you were voicetracking out of Spokane, you would fit like a glove at KMCQ! Now...if only KMCQ would get a new Optimod for their stereo processing... (lol! Running joke about the station. Great music and format, but they REALLY need to fix the audio processing...)

10-4 on that buddy! i get to hear KMCQ every now and then in the back ground, while picking up loads at depots. some good forgotten hits seem to get the rare spins.

Always have appreciated your posts JJ.

That's the spirit looking to jump back on the horse and find another 14 year ride.

Best,
Stephanie

I've been here in Spokane 14 years...never have been with a station this long in my life. It used to be like "WKRP In Cincinatti"---you know the lyrics: Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial. BUT---since Seattle is my hometown and I know the city like the back of my hand and know things ONLY someone from Seattle knows----J.P. Patches, Spud Fish-n-Chips along Alki Beach, Seward park, Brakeman Bill, Dick's Cheeseburgers, fries and those incredible shakes, I saw my first concert at the Paramount Theater--it was the "Guess Who." I grew up in West Seattle til I was 10, then it was onto Bellevue & Redmond. I've lived in Everett, Kirkland, and Burien. And I still get a charge going up to the top of the Space Needle, hanging out at the Seattle Center, Bellevue Square and more. I really sincerely hope the opportunity for me to return to the Emerald City indeed happens.....a radio station there would have a very happy camper on staff---no doubt about it. I prefer LIVE radio, but I can voicetrakk a show and make it so compelling and sounding live...you would be amazed. IF and I repeat IF---voicetrakking is done RIGHT. It IS an art-form.....

Thanks for everyone's kind words....it really means alot....

Well, I would hire you on the spot based soley on this post alone! This city needs talent like a J.J. Hemingway. A guy with a love for the town and a history. If only KMCQ were hiring live DJs. Dang it, it would be the perfect fit.
