Kiss 1033 flipped to La Lupe 1033

If there's a market for it, somebody else will likely pick up the format. Whether the market truly has a hole for CHR is the real question. The Basin hasn't been much of a mainstream CHR market for at least the last 25 years. Even when KCHX was posting great numbers 30 years ago, it struggled to make money. I hadn't listened to Kiss FM in a long time, but someone told me it had been sounding more like 93.3 for at least the last six months.
I don’t see anyone picking up the Top 40/CHR mantle. Besides, B93 is already a broad-based Rhythmic Top 40 and Mix 97.9 is already a broad-based Hot AC. There’s no market for a mainstream CHR. The market that has a hole for CHR will not be filled EVER!

I feel you . Alot of people I know are upset . I'm not going to b93 hopefully someone will pick the format soon. I know it will be a mistake. .maybe 95x can change or in the future 102 you already have Leo and Rebecca I can see that station Again, I don’t see anyone pick up the Top 40/CHR mantle!

When this came down the wire last month, my first thought was "did they franchise this format?" Because La Lupe, with a very very similar logo, is a trademarked brand of Multimedios and has a presence in nearly every Multimedios market in Mexico. It is a Spanish adult/classic hits format, to help you position it in the very large corpus of Regional Mexican music.

What is fascinating? Is that this “variety hits“ format with a strong Grupera base was never done in Mexico until the Recuerdo brand proved its success with such a mix in Los Angeles and then in many southwestern markets.

The feeling in Mexico had been that if they blended ballads and light pop with the Bukis and Chente it would only appeal to low income groups. As Recuerdo showed the value of the format at all social economic levels and created its own set of clone base competitors, owners started trying this format in Mexico itself.

What is interesting is that the Recuerdo format was always targeted at first and second generation Mexicans and Mexican Americans, yet it had no counterpart in Mexico.
