Kiss 95.7

I was listening to Kiss today, and I have to say I rarely listen. I guess I'm outgrowing some of the hip-hop, etc.

I'm not advocating "bringing back the good ole days." Things change, I think we can all appreciate that. However, I used to love Kiss back in the early 90's.

But, music aside, I have to say the station sounded awful. There were no sweepers, little imaging of any kind. It went from commercial right to music many times in the 10 minutes I listened. Why the cutback on production? Is there a change coming? Anyone else notice this?

.

Ah yes....KISS the good old days Jeremy Savage, Robin King, Michael Maze, Chris Walsh, Jay Beau Jones.
The DJ's had passion for the station, the music, the clubs. THAT was good radio.
Now we have skillets or munchies or a pd who pretends to be a dj named Justin Sane...C'mon how lame is that.
By the way....How fast is the music pitched? It sounds awful like the songs are on crack. I can't listen
just my opinion.

The music is really pitched. I heard a song on Kiss yesterday and flipped to WLIR and heard the same song. The difference was amazing.

Seems to me that they must really be cutting back at WKSS.

I know someone will defend that radio is a business, but it's also a public service.

But, let's face it, the old days are defintely over. No more Mark Driscoll voiceovers :) Now THAT's a shame.

Mark Driscoll was a GOD!
That voice was huge. who was the image director? I remember some Kiss Club sweepers.
"Protect your car with the club...The KISS club on KISS 95.7"
Giving you the beat the whole beat and nothing but the beat
Marks read was amazing.

Kiss 95.7 is one of the worst station in America ! Bring the days , When Kiss and T I C was very good CHR/P stations .

I haven't heard KISS in ages being in an area where 95.9 Fox and PLJ kill the signal, but I do like how KC101 is playing the songs at normal speeds. Sounds good.

Personally, I don't think you're missing much these days!
I still wonder whether or not change is coming to 10 Columbus Blvd, given the total lack of any production.

Very sad indeed.......

Yea really.....

A station in my area (WVCR) plays all kinds of 80s music which is awesome!! (AT THE WRONG SPEED!!! -- They think it sounds better that way (What a bunch of stupid morons))

the pitch on kiss is awful. i try to listen and end up turning them off b/c i get so annoyed.

I remember listening to the KISS Club under the covers in my bed after Mom & Dad told me to turn the radio off. That was the first time I heard that sweet guitar from Slash on Michael Jackson's Black or White. I think TIC is sounding great these days, all that 80's stuff they've been playing speaks to me. It speaks to me.

Yes, but were there any guitar riffs heard on the KISS club?? :)
My recollection is that was more dance/freestyle.

It's a shame the station has been dragged down the toilet.

Anyone have any old Kiss airchecks? I used to tape songs off the radio in the 80's, so I have a fun, but usually I stopped the radio immediately after the song. :-[

I can't listen to Kiss all all today, it's just a joke. Not even the same station, I just consider the old Kiss (and 96TICFM) as dead.

good to notice (no sure if anyone else has) that kc101 has been playing older songs lately. i've heard madonna and prince, as well as the chili peppers and pearl jam. who knows what's up - but i've been pretty pleased with their deeper playlist lately.

Me too..the songs they are throwing in arent anything out of the ordinary for a top 40 station to play. They are "oh wow" songs making the listener feel like they dont play the same songs over and over. Z100s been doin it for years.

In my opinion, KC101's processing sounds bad. Their processing has always been stuffy, but at least with pitch it sounded alright. Ever since KCI has removed pitch, they've been removed from my presets. Hot 93-7's does as well... it was great until a couple of weeks ago. CHR/Pop and Rhythmic are formats that you need to pitch the music. Even Hot AC and AC. Maybe to you, the music sounds awful pitched up - but a bunch of 30 year old dudes aren't the demographic. Ask any girl in the 18-34 demographic in Connecticut, play them the same song on KCI and the same song on KSS and they'll tell you it's boring on KCI. Why do I know? I've tried it myself. Music is boring without pitch to girls, and to anyone with any kind of CHR background. Pitch makes songs sound so much better... And no matter what my feelings are about WKSS, I'm not going to deny that their processing and pitch are kick-ass. It's around 3 percent, and it sounds really good. KC101's processing sounds like an AM station. TIC-FM has a good 2 or so percent pitch as well.

I respect your opinion. I think KCI's processing is fine. It's a lot better than it was about a year ago when it WAS "stuffy". Less and less top 40 stations are speeding up the songs. If it is such a great thing to do, why does Z100 play them at normal speed? I do not work in top 40, but if I did, I would be doing what the big boys did, which means, slow the songs down. But hey, if you live in an area where you pick up both stations, you can choose for yourself. :)

...but no sweepers, voiceovers, jingles
what's up with that?
Good point though, I'm not in the Kiss demographic. But, hey if they sounded good, the may have more listeners!!

it is a different time folks. most kids get their music by downloading it...and guess what? it is not pitched. adam - i get what you are saying, but may it be a bit sexist? todays listener wants good music w/out a lot of hype, and they want it the way it sounds on their ipod - and that is not pitched. i think kc101's processing is fine. i also think they (at least recently) are playing a better mix of music.
