Kiss 95.7

I haven't heard KISS in ages being in an area where 95.9 Fox and PLJ kill the signal, but I do like how KC101 is playing the songs at normal speeds. Sounds good.

In my opinion, KC101's processing sounds bad. Their processing has always been stuffy, but at least with pitch it sounded alright. Ever since KCI has removed pitch, they've been removed from my presets. Hot 93-7's does as well... it was great until a couple of weeks ago. CHR/Pop and Rhythmic are formats that you need to pitch the music. Even Hot AC and AC. Maybe to you, the music sounds awful pitched up - but a bunch of 30 year old dudes aren't the demographic. Ask any girl in the 18-34 demographic in Connecticut, play them the same song on KCI and the same song on KSS and they'll tell you it's boring on KCI. Why do I know? I've tried it myself. Music is boring without pitch to girls, and to anyone with any kind of CHR background. Pitch makes songs sound so much better... And no matter what my feelings are about WKSS, I'm not going to deny that their processing and pitch are kick-ass. It's around 3 percent, and it sounds really good. KC101's processing sounds like an AM station. TIC-FM has a good 2 or so percent pitch as well.

...but no sweepers, voiceovers, jingles
what's up with that?
Good point though, I'm not in the Kiss demographic. But, hey if they sounded good, the may have more listeners!!

It's a Clear Channel thing across a lot of their CHRs right now. Check out WAKS in Cleveland, WFKS in Jacksonville, among others that are doing the same thing. A lot of dead segues, etc.

And as far as processing goes - I see and understand what you guys are all talking about as far as less pitch. I just think it's a tradition of CHR (in the mid 90s, WXKS sped up their songs as much as 5%) and it sounds great. I also think pitch is important on CHR with songs that are burnt or burning - I think it decreases the likelihood of the listener changing the station to find a better song if it sounds "hotter". That's just my two cents though.

Radio is still viable to people in my age demographic - and it's not as bad as people think it is. Granted, a lot of us have iPods and etc. But radio is still viable - don't count it all out yet.

And Max, if you'd like to check out a balanced CHR, give a listen online to us.. hitmusici983.com.

With the internet, you can listen to CHR's around the world. Which makes me wonder how anyone can listen to Kiss these days without laughing at its lameness.

WOW! Gary was awesome back then. Last time I listened to him on TIC he was basically phoneing it in.
Sad he was a Major tallent

But can't one also argue the ratings, and how WKSS has has just beaten WKCI is ratings in theyre own market. Granted it was very close, but Kiss still beat KC in New Haven, and if you look at other books, come very close.

12+ numbers don't tell the story. i've heard kc101 beats kiss in the demos. funny thing about arbitron - i also heard that kiss did well (in new haven) this past fall 12+ because of male #'s and heavily weighhted male books in new haven last fall.

I don't trust arbs that much. The thing that I can't stand is how the trades will post 12+ numbers which don't really tell the story. you can't tell much by 12+. I have heard that KC 101 does very well in the target. I can't imagine that they'd be losing to KISS in New Haven.

I was listening to kiss yesterday and it seems like they pulled back on the pitch....
I guess "justin" reads this board. HAHAHAHAHAHA He's our B*^#h LOL
Hey Mr. Sane...STOP playing those cheesy remixes and by the way for more than a decade it was THE KISS CLUB!
get it right you fool

Nice point Ker. As a fan of Kiss from back in the day I was shocked to hear the return of "club kiss"
Just ANOTHER sign that CC doesn't care at all about wkss. The (original) KISS CLUB was IT in Connecticut. Ask anybody in Ct that listened to radio in the late 80's through the late 90's what they listened to Fri. or Sat nights and I guarentee most will mention the KISS CLUB.

Kiss should be put out of it's misery. It's like an aimaly that's been hit by a car and wounded by the side of the road.

Maybe 96.5 'TIC should get back more into the CHR game?

Agreed! CBS Radio would still have their top-rated AC station (WRCH-FM), so why not?

If you're CBS, why do you want to take any bite out of WZMX?

It wouldn't be bad for CBS Radio Hartford as all the money would be going to the same place. So they can have a hip hop station and top 40 station. I don't see whats wrong with that. Theirs many other markets where radio companies own a hip hop station and top 40. Im sure you won't hear much hip hop on the top 40 maybe just the popular stuff thats on the top 40 charts.

Man, I'd love to see another Hartford chr battle TIC vs KISS. The only thing is that TIC would have to make some MAJOR staff changes to do it.
You can't have a morning show on TIC that is run by a man who openly admits he is a HUGE fan of big band music and loves to visit his retirement home in Florida. They are NOT hip. I'm not trying to bash anybody...Gary has been very successful but, he can not cut it as the morning guy on a hip chr. I don't think it would be very hard to beat Courtney (they're not that hip either) but, you would need somebody with a little bit of fire in 'em
Is there ANYBODY that could stay on TIC if they went top 40?

Damon, Jeannine, and Dana are all people I can see on a CHR.

kiss has their eye off the ball - they are focusing on zmx, not tic. perfect opportunity for tic to take them out.

Go get 'em TIC....It's kinda like watching a lion take out the weak zebra on animal planet. kinda too easy but still tastes GOOOOOOD!

Someone on the Boston board noticed that there were a lot of dead segues on WJMN and WXKS up there. It has also been suggested that this is a Clear(Cheap) Channel strategy to cut out clutter and make it appear that there's more music.

IMHO, it sounds cheap and amateurish. Almost as if it's being broadcast out of someone's basement.
