KISS FM, NY's new no. 1 in Spring Phase II

KISS FM is now above Z100 and LTW in that order.
Could KISS have gained the old CD101 listeners?

Lite FM seems to be slipping and RXP might be better off pulling the plug.

Congrats Kiss-FM! That is one great station. I grew up listening to Kiss-FM.

Not for nothing, it's a little tiring reading the posts wondering which Urban AC the CD 101 listeners went to.

There is still a jazz station in the New York area: Newark's WBGO 88.3. I'm sure some listeners went to Kiss, some to BLS, but those aren't jazz stations. Don't underestimate BGO. Jazz fans most definitely have BGO in their consideration set: when they want to hear jazz they turn on a jazz station. They don't limit themselves to Arbitron rated commercial radio stations.

hmmm... Maybe Pulse 87.7 will be moving up the dial sooner than later ::)

Sorry but WBGO and WQCD had NOTHING in common. Smooth jazz is a different breed than any jazz played on WBGO. Any smooth jazz listener would not likely default to WBGO simply because they play jazz. It's like comparing Billie Holiday to Chris Botti.

Interesting that Emmis is one of the only companies that wants PPM to be rolled out now before issues can be resolved. In NY, it would hurt them as I doubt KISS would be #1 with PPM. Then again maybe RXP would do better with PPM? They couldn't do any worse.

So let me get this straight... Arbitron still counts those lost Smooth Jazz listeners even if they tuned to a non-rated station or convert to satellite radio? I've always been confused about how they get the numbers.

Kiss FM nr. 1 and still no livestream, isn't it strange? I hope they decide to put one up. It's very important and it is a shame for Emmis!

No, they cannot follow them unless they are given diaries or in the near future PPM.
Where sj listerers have gone is a guestimate although logic says they would migrate towards an r&b station.

There are no non-rated stations. There are stations with no ratings, but every station is rated.

But you really don't know that. In 2008, people have no allegiance to radio, let along commercial radio stations with diaries. They are listening to their iPods, to satellite radio, and BGO, and not looking back.

Obviously Kiss does not need a livestream.

Yes, Kiss can get the ratings without a livestream.....but they should still have it.

In most cases, a stream may detract from the on-air ratings.

Emmis walking behind the facts to not stream there stations, except RXP. People with poor FM receptions in offices or outside town need to have a stream of there favorite station. All the companys thinks so (CBS, Clear Channel etc.), except Emmis and that's a big shame..!

For years, Karmazin had swore off Internet streaming of radio stations while he was at CBS.

That streaming thing seems to be working quite well for CBS these days, isn't it?

would streams be picked up by PPM, or is it immaterial because they're not hearing the commercials?

Unless 100% simulcast, streams are encoded as a separate station. So, instead of adding to ratings in the metro, they subtract. Most stations remove some or all commercials from the stream to comply with the terms of the AFTRA agreement, which makes most agencies order stations to not stream commercials... so no simulcast exists.

KISS is garbage. The KISS staff should be happy the CD101.9 crowd is running over to them. WBLS was winning the 25-54 crowd before KISS got these new listeners.

KISS is Luther Vandross, Anita Baker and Keyshia "OFF-KEY-SHIA" Cole all day, every day. PD Ebro Darden should go out and find some new songs. I listen to WHUR in Washington,DC (online) while I'm at work (when Im not listening to Choice FM/London). I know that I will get a new adult R&B song on WHUR. KISS is listed as R&B Adult, but it's more like an R&B Oldies station.
