KJR-FM & Bob Rivers

As a side note listening to Marty Riemer this morning it would appear that his partner Jodi Brothers will be returning to the airwaves soon as well, although he said he couldn't be specific he said it will blow your mind...

She filled in on Bob's Show just prior to him leaving KZOK any chance she become a regular when that show returns to KJR-FM?

Bet Jodi is going to KIRO-FM to partner with John Curley. As for Rivers: that instantly makes 95.7 a major player.

Character check is in order. How many of you who bashed Clear Channel for making recent moves and who coincidently also were bashing CBS for letting River's show go from KZOK, are willing to step up and enjoy a steaming hot bowl of crow? Anyone?

Of course we can always go back in the archives if you are shy.

I guess the theory that he was headed to KMTT just went up in smoke. How schizophrenic will KJR-FM be with River's talkfest in the am followed by Good Time Oldies? And, speaking of KMTT...they went into a "no jock" A to Z presentation pretty quickly late last week. Prelude to a change?

Any news yet about how much of his entourage will remain intact? Will we be blessed with Maura, Pedro, Luciana and Arik as well as Bob/Spike/Joe?

I had thought for some time that KJR might be a good fit for them but less so after the move to oldies. And since KJR has gone so long with all-music-mornings and I had thought were doing fairly well with it I am really surprised they decided to invest in such a big-ticket morning show. Risky.

Maybe someone can help me understand this, too. Why, when Bob & company left after their show's contract expired, do they have to sit out a 6-month non-compete and yet Jubal left the J&B morning show and went to a competing station to start up a competing morning show on a station going head-to-head against his old station without any break at all? Just curious. Some of this stuff just doesn't make much sense to us Just Lissners.

That's easy. Jubal wasn't a marquee player on Kiss. He probably didn't have a non-compete in his contract.

As for Rivers, non-competes survive contract expirations - that's why the show won't be back till April.

Possible Jodi & Bob Rivers match up, too. She did some fill-in work with Rivers in the past year.

Good for Rivers! Is it a fit... who cares? I bought the rumors that he was headed back to KISW or KMTT, especially after KJR went from Classic Hits to Oldies. Seems an odd move if you are going after the River's audience. That said, Bob's show will get solid numbers and adding more talent like Jodi is smart. The station may adjust to fit him down the line or Bob may adjust his show to expand appeal beyond his core audience. Rivers went from Active Rock to Classic Rock without missing a beat. Classic Rock to Oldies is no bigger leap. Could be good for kvi in mornings where they could pick up some of the music fans. Great news for Bob, his crew and his fans.

From Facebook:

".. We'll be back on the air on April 1st... Unfortunately Maura won't be coming with us, she decided to take some more time to be with her kids(quote "They don't stay little long, right?" Luckily the awesome Jodi Brothers will join the crew."

Yikes.

And that will be the same reaction from the CC stations forced to air Rivers show when it becomes part of the "Premium Choice" family or is syndicated by Premiere. CC should look back at CBS' failed attempt to syndicate the show and learn from it.

Not only that, they should learn from their attempts to syndicate that other HUGE Seattle morning show hosted by the T-man

I would say "That other HUGE morning show" did ok for itself in syndication. Being on in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco/Oakland, Spokane, Anchorage, Yakima, Pittsburgh, etc..... is a little tougher to pull off than you may think. The numbers in San Francisco were good up until then end. A pretty impressive feat considering the show was syndicated from the 13th market to the 4th. Oh and 2.5 Million a year in salary should be considered a success too, no?

Uh - yeah. Sure. Hope Rob had enough sense to invest or save some of that windfall...

It is a win win for Bob and his gang, they stuck together got a nice deal done and whether or not the show puts together a successful run in syndication should they go that route I don't think matters as much to him as being the top dog right here at home, everything after that is just gravy for them...
