KJWL 105.5 Classic Hits moves to 99.3

I don't think formats like KYNO are not the most popular anymore, (hate to say it) but Spanish is growing more and more, especially in Fresno!
Spanish usage is actually decreasing in Fresno as the highest percentage of Hispanics are second generation and beyond and generally use little or no Spanish language media. In this regard, Fresno is like Albuquerque where less than 20% of Hispanics are Spanish dominant.

More stations does not indicate more listening... it just means more fragmentation.

A JFRC clone would fill the ‘70’s gap between KYNO and KJWL. Split the pie one more time? John would need Bobby O to nail the imaging though.

There’s always a MOD clone. Bobby O does the liners in Palm Springs and makes it work.

Not holding my breath on anything of value to baby boomers going to 105.5. Hope I’m wrong.

Still, there are some nicely successful over-60 formats run by local owners who sell to retailers who don't care about ages and the like. There is plenty of business at that level, particularly in medium and smaller markets where the bulk of revenue is local direct.
Good point. If I won the lottery, I wouldn’t mind owning and operating such a station knowing I would be serving the unserved. All I would care about is covering expenses.

This info from Equifax seems to indicate there are dollars to be spent by the aging boomers:

A 60 year old today is different from a 60 year old 20, 30 years ago, or more. They are more active, health conscious, living longer, and spending money on things that someone younger would buy. I think eventually the big ad agencies will realize how much money they are leaving on the table by ignoring this huge, and growing demographic.

Maybe someday there will ad agencies that will focus entirely on 55+. There are so many products and services that can be marketed. A big part of it will be to create intelligent, straight forward, without the hype, ad campaigns that appeal to even the most jaded seniors that are turned off by today's youth oriented advertising.

Only then will commercial radio put out the welcome mat for those 55+.

Classic Hits KJWL 99.3 will simulcast on 105.5 til July 1, then 105.5 will have a new format, KYNO would be nice to hear on FM, as long as the new format is in English and Not News-talk or Sports, we have enough of those stations.
So I’m in Fresno today and I haven’t heard them flip 105.5 fm yet. No announcement on both frequencies. I wonder if it’s still going to happen today?

Hopefully that means no 2000s!!
To me "Classic" would have to be at least 20yrs old.
It does, have some from the early 2000s, but I will say that they are all songs that wouldn't have sounded out of place in the 80s or 90s. No Zac Brown Band, like I've heard on some "classic" country stations.

I prefer the rotation on Outlaw Country , KVLI, out of Lake Isabella, a Bakersfield rimshotter. More authentic, including local voiceover talent. Of course, country is still king in the South Valley because of that "twangy" Bakersfield sound.

1140/103.7 is being operated by the same people who lease 98.,1 from Steve Rubin
