They're going through a hiring process for a new PD. That'll take a few more months.

A consultant just consults, he doesn't do the work.

They've already made the change with the mid-day show.

Maybe I can help James understand the difference, since I do both in Albuquerque.

I have two service agreements with Don Davis. One is to program 93.7/KRKE (technically 1100 and its translator) which I do by creating the automation logs here in L.A. and uploading them to the computer there. All Don does is insert his local commercials.

My second agreement covers consulting all other stations in New Mexico that Don owns either as an individual or via Vanguard Media. As opposed to hands-on programming, for those stations I do music research, suggest tweaks to rotations and clocks, etc. But unlike KRKE, Don makes the final decision on what to implement.

Albright, O'Malley & Brenner are the latter, not the former.

It's not the type of changes you're supposed to notice unless playing VERY close attention to the music logs.

KKGO has increased the weekly plays on its most played songs to give them an extra 2-3 spins per day. And 1-2 spins on its next tier.

Saul has also been very vocal about increasing the amount of golds played on the station and has done that as well. The point of both moves were to make sure listeners are hearing more familiar songs more often to increase time spent listening.

Saul is how old now? LIKE 96-97? This is really great to see him staying so active. I guess Boomers are just too young to talk radio with Saul. :)
Serious question - how has his son done with the business and working with his dad over the last two or three years. I have seen very little on
these stations. Hats off to Saul. There is the Lone Ranger and there is Saul. :)

Bingo. Saul is 97.

I know Saul from professional affiliations, notably many years as a member of Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. Michael often accompanied his father to luncheons and we have talked. I'll always remember when Saul introduced me he said "this is who has said so many nice things about us over the years" and Michael's reaction was "that is so kind of you". Considering the history, the Levines are surprisingly modest and easy to talk to.

Oh, and Michael's been involved at the stations since the late 1990s, not just the past few years.

Thanks k.m.

Country Aircheck reports that due to changes made by Saul Levine, KKGO will not flip to Christmas this year

For the first time since 2015, Mt. Wilson KKGO/Los Angeles did not flip to all-Christmas music following Thanksgiving. The non-move follows several changes this year, including founder/owner Saul Levine taking over programming duties, and lineup moves in mornings and middays.
