I think he may have KKND confused with What now is WTMI (Citadel flipped the calls on the 5th of January officially)
In 1997 or so, (according to CCRC anyway) the 106.1 flipped from Alt rocker "the zephyr" to country as "Kissin Country 106.1" when Guaranty took over.

Unless he caught what I heard one night long ago....
While listening to a country station , one night the DJ accidently flipped the wrong cd player and Whoops we had half of an Ozzy Osboure song played....
Let's just say didn't hear the DJ/Board Op for a while ,if ever again

Maybe? The piece they e-mailed out to promote the format was super cheesy. But, then again, this is Citadel. If so, a good joke and one Sig would pull.

Re: sawtooth

Not exactly... sorry. I wish I could tell you though. I do know that it is Allen Beebe because I recognize his voice and he says "I aaaammmmm Beebe" or something to that effect. lol

I learned from my mistakes. Nowdays, when I aircheck, I put a date and time on the tape/cd.

Who sent out the email? Could you post what you received here?

Re: country on 106.7 in 1997

Re signal problems with 106.1 and 106.7: as former engineer of both stations, I have a bit of a take on the matter.

106.1: while the Zephyr suffered from throw-weight and distance limitations -- we were asking the alleged antenna to push 50KW from the tower site north of Abita 35+ miles away into downtown NOLA -- to my memory 106.1 never suffered from significant co-channel interference. A propagation study showed that the 500 ft tower was so far way that the lakefront levees and the Gentilly ridge were acting as signal barriers.

106.7: the End's stick is located way-down-south on what is appropriately called "End of the World" road (LA 300 just south of Reggio), but if you stand on the Plaza Tower's rooftop and squint hard enough, you can see it with the naked eye.

Doesn't mean you could always hear it. I got to be pretty good at guessing when approaching cold fronts would bring in 106.7 WKMX from Enterprise, AL --
http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WKMX&service=FM&status=L&hours=U -- right on top of Howard Stern. At other times, when the CCA transmitter would take one of its frequent times off (fell down went boom), I could hear San Antonio's 106.7 at the base of KKND's tower. Not surprising given that on foggy days I can get Baton Rouge's 98.1 here in San Antonio.

All of this interfence was why we ran Howard in mono on 106.7. No one ever called.

I know on some mornings here on the bayous west of the city, I'd catch KBEB from Rayne or WSTZ from Jackson on the 106.7 frequency over KKND.

I've been catching both on my monitors of the 106.7 frequncy since it went off, with WSTZ being the clear winner most times.

Yes, I finally got un-lazy and googled WKMX and they were top 40, not country. So I guess that doesn't explain it. Oh, well.

Paul, I think you were the engineer at the Zephyr when I was selling stereos at Hooper's in Gulfport MS and we were using you guys as a demo station when we sold the RDS-enabled Denon radios. I recall the Zephyr was the only station that had correct info on the RDS. B-97 had something wrong with theirs and so did WNOE. 107.3 in Pensacola had turned alternative, but their RDS still called them WOW-107 with a country format. LOL

Yep, that was me. I remember y'all over at Hooper calling about it and was glad to make the effort to get our info right. Also glad to see that RDS is "all grown up" now that the scrolling song-title function has been perfected; when we started that at CCNO we received praises from listeners thanking us for finally letting them know what the songs were. Never forget the basics: people want to hear their name on the radio and they want you to announce every song title.
