KKNG has moved to 97.3 and 93.3 will become?

Yes, it's true, I did love my job, unlike my previous radio job where I said I loved my job when I really meant that I hated my job with all of my being.

They made it easy to love my job there. It was the best job I ever had. Thanks for the kind words Watercooler.

James

Well, someone has apparently registered 933timfm.com. If Tyler's going to use that name, it's a terrible idea. If it's intended as a joke, it's not funny.

TIIIIMMMMMYYYYY!!! No kidding. I've heard them bliping the audio several times tonight. I'd had expected with the blips that they would have cut over by now to something else on 933. Well, we shall see... Maybe it's a morning change or something.

You'd think an Oklahoma company like Tyler would've known better than to give its station the same name as the man who killed 168 friends and neighbors 15 years ago, wouldn't you? I'm hoping that was a
speculator rather than the real thing.

Is anyone speculating on why KKNG moved from a 100,000 watt signal to a 1000 watt signal? I suppose the lesser signal is just a place to continue to offer some sort of Country music and serve clients willing to stay with the format (even if the DJs have been fired).

In the fall ratings, KTST was #3, KXXY was #7 and KKNG was #10. But only a point and a half separated the three Oklahoma City country stations. The previous two books, KKNG was the second-ranked country station, ahead of KXXY. OK, it's odd that Oklahoma City has three full-power country stations. Most large markets, even in the South and Southwest have only two... or a third will go with Classic Country. But if all three OKC country stations are healthy and I assume all doing fine 25-54, why blow one of them up?

There's really not much of an obvious format hole in OKC radio.

When KKNG went to newer music, it gave CC the upper hand. With KXXY playing the older stuff and taking that audience from the Tyler's, and KTST being solid in the new music scene, that left KKNG to be squeezed by KTST and KXXY like a pimple. It was a very, very poor idea to go modern. Appearently sales back then just didn't have the ability to sell the older demo. At least that was the excuse I heard. At least if they go to the hairdryer with the country format, they may do the right thing and go back to the older stuff. With that being said, KXXY's superior signal will probably still beat the hell out of them, especially since KKNG has whosale fired so many of the jocks people might have wanted to hear.

So here's the question of the week for the gang here: Did Kevin Christopher have much to do with going down the new music train-wreck or was that decided for him from further up their food chain?

Exsqueeze me?

Alternative (that people would actually listen to, The Spy doesn't qualify)
Soft AC
80s/90s (a la GenX, or a Jack that catered to local hits rather than being off a bird)
Classic Urban (between Urban AC and today's Urban garbage)
AAA
70s that would reflect the whole pop spectrum of the era rather than sharing so much with KRXO

And I don't care what Kevin Christopher did or didn't do, he's tired and needs to move on. Wouldn't hurt to let somebody else have the keys to Magic too, and let Steve O'Brien just do mornings.

My question about 'ol Kev relates to who was the bright person that decided to go obviously the wrong direction with KKNG. I'd sure like to know. Then, of course, I'd like to know if they still have jobs. That will help me have a better ultimate understanding of the place as a whole. If the owners of that place let the guy that ruined the station still stick around, that says volumes...

Let's not forget, Kev's been with the Tylers for forever, since 93.3 was in Ada. They might cut him a break for one fubar; or of course, he may be adequate in an OM capacity, but doesn't need to be making the particular programming decisions, so they might bring in somebody (or a consultant) to handle the on-air goods, and let him continue to manage the nuts-n-bolts end of things. I don't really gather he's a "for love of radio" guy, he's more of a suit-type, which is probably what the Tylers saw in him, to rein in their possibly-too-radio-fanny inclinations. But hey, either way, I'm used to the "let the ruiner stick around" modus operandi...my "civilian" job is the same way. We have an over 200% turnover rate, and i've finally given up the ghost and started interviewing myself...no matter how bad things are, and how many great employees they run off, they're still in charge and pocketing way too much money for their continued ineptitude.

Well they are claiming "Ratings" for the reason they blew out James, Bill & Kc. Yet Ironically Kevin, who does Middays..had WORSE ratings.. So yes, the "Let the ruiner stick around" philosophy is in full-swing over there. KKNG has been failing for the last 4 years, which looks like a PROGRAMMING problem, not an air-staff program, yet he's the one that kept his job. Wonder how long that will last? As for who decided they should go "new" I've heard that the sales staff couldn't sell 'old' demos, and the sales manager demanded that they get higher 25-54 numbers. Ironically the sales manager is also still there. Go figure.
