KLJT-HD2

KLJT is now broadcasting KZQX-FM aka "QX-FM" on their HD-2 channel. It actually sounds pretty good. Is anybody listening? I've had two calls from people who noticed the change. Maybe there are more than a half dozen HD radios in the Jacksonville - Tyler area?

That's great news, they were probably people who had a HD radio in their car. Last year my brother brought his Insignia portable FM-only HD radio for me to try out here in Kilgore. It had very disappointing reception. He lives in Grand Prairie and said it worked great there (no kidding since it's nearby Cedar Hill) but I couldn't receive KJLT or any station out of Tyler-Longview and Shreveport (KDAQ 89.9 is the only one listed on iBiquity's website) broadcasting in HD. Unless they make better performing HD tuners and get it into more car and home stereos I doubt HD radio will ever become popular.

BTW I have noticed KLJT coming in much better in Kilgore-Longview than last year. Have they've done any recent transmitter-tower work?

They recently replaced a harmonic filter in their transmision line that was causing major problems. Perhaps that helped.

I bought one of those Insignia HD radios, but took it back. Not only was there no HD, it barely picked up local analog stations in the Best Buy parking lot in Longview.

Hey, Chuck....

Congrats on extending the reach of QX-FM...the little station that could -- and did!

;D ;D ;D

I guess that was the problem. I'd rather listen to The Breeze on KJLT over KFRO-FM because the audio processing is cleaner and not as pounding on my old eardrums. I kinda wish Waller could move KJLT up to his new 565 ft tower in Bullard that they've built for 94.3 KZXM.

I'm sure they'd love to move KLJT to Bullard, but I doubt the FCC would let them. The band is pretty crowded. Most stations are located where they are because they fit in that particular geographic location, and not anywhere else. Because they are spread out all over the place, only a few stations can cover the entire Tyler-Longview-Jacksonville market with just one transmitter site.

KLJT cant move an inch without powering down. It is too close to 102.7 the blaze. Even now with 102.3 being HD, it kills 102.7 in Jacksonville because they are just too close to each other. 102.7 cant move because of 103.1 in Pittburg. That is the problem with Arbitron turning into the Tyler/Longview market and having all of these regional FM signals that were meant to only cover their citys of license. The whole etex FM band needs to be evaluated and FMs be re-allocated.

I agree, it's from all these move-in's, upgrades and new FM stations all wanting a piece of the Tyler/Longview market in the last 20 years that created this mess.

When KKTX had their stick in Kilgore in the late 80's-early 90's on FM 2276 (I believe) it's 50K signal could overpower 95.3 on a cheap boombox or car stereo.

KJLT when they were running christian or jazz always had signal problems when driving around downtown and the north part of Tyler, it's just in the last year since they flipped to CHR that their audio and signal have been improved.

When KLJT was a Christian station it was only 5 or 10 kw and the tower was about 3 miles south of Mount Selman. Now they are between Jacksonville and Rusk at 50kw. One of the ways they fixed KLJT is when the station was built the antenna was not installed properly so they re-alligned the bays and did some work on it. Then they bought a brand new transmitter. It was the first brand new transmitter bought by Waller since the mid 80's when KEBE's transmitter was replaced.

I was listening to QX-FM this morning on my iPhone and heard the legal ID with KLJT-HD on it. Good on you Chuck, glad to hear a station actually being legal and doing the right thing!
