KLOK Sold, Format Change Ahead

Radio-Info.com is reporting that KLOK/1170 in San Jose has sold to new owners who specialize in "ethnic and other niche radio plays":

Principle, run by President/CEO Bill Saurer, is paying $7,650,000 for the facility, which has 50-kw days and 5-kw nights. Univision will retain the current "Radio Cadena" news/talk format and move it to the HD-2 signal of its "Recuerdo" KBRG-FM (100.3).

Unless I'm mistaken, Yes/No never ran on KLOK 1170, SJ; it ran on KLOK-FM (now KKSF for the moment at 103.7 in SF).

Both 103.7 and 1170 were "Yes/No Radio," though I don't think they did any simulcasting - different jocks and playlists on each station.

I'll have to admit having a brain like a sponge that retains useless information - but I remember their 80s era TV commercial campaign with low-rent animation and the tacky jingle - "KLOK-AM is Yes-No Radio, K-L-O-K is you!" (Repeat lyrics for the FM)
 
Trust us on this one yes/no radio was KLOK radio am 1170 it would get on my nerves!
By the way does anyone know what ever happened to J. or (Jay)Stone (I am not sure of the spelling) the all nighter on KLOK?

Not to be cofused by another dj by that name.

Check You Tube - that commercial is on there. Although it ends without the "is you!" part.

Me too. We couldn't receive KLOK-AM very well in Marin County back in the 60's but it did come in occasionally. I remember they played a "tick tock" background sound when the music wasn't playing. Wonder how long that went on?

I'm guessing there is a good chance the new owners will ressurect the long neglected King Rd studios. I hope this means I can get a peek inside someday; have always read it was quite the site in the day. Anyone know when the transition is going to happen?

And it's actually a return to the past for KLOK. When I was a kid I used to listen to the daily morning Polka Party and my grandmother used to tune in the Italian Hour. At noon every day, longtime personality Joaquin Esteeves delivered the news in Portuguese. He was quite the hit in the South Bay. I believe he spent about 30 years doing the news in Portuguese at one station or other.
