KLOL went to a pop/rhythmic/light tropical format during the Winter book, in a gradual transition, cutting the reggaetón from 10 or so an hour to two, and limiting the English hip hop to 2 cuts also. The rest is bachata / salsa / merengue about 2 to 3 cuts and 3 to 5 Spanish pop and ballad. The transition was pretty much set for the start of the PPM in April.

At the same time, they let go of the Mexicanz, on KPTY now because they were too English, but they have not got much of a morning presence still, about 5 months after the changes started.

The format is hardly pop/rock when you consider that they are plaing stuff like Aventura and Juan Luis Guerra. Where did you get the idea that they were pop/rock? In fact, the format was developed at WMGE in Miami late last year, and slightly adapted for Houston. It has done very well in PPM, becoming the Hispanic cume leader, although it does not do as well in share, where it is #3 behind KLTN and KOVE's big numbers.

Here are the 25 most played songs of the last 7 days.

Like David said, it started at the same time that the Mexicanz were replaced by Bo Corona. (Dude Needs a Haircut ):D

Station sounds better. Not so gangsta. Now if we could do something about the jocks.
They'd be fine for a hip hop station. I try to listen, but when the jocks come on its back to channel flipping.
Does anyone else agree?

the jocks will soon be let go and another team will come on board.... Mega wont be Mega for long! and you can quote me on that!!

Learn to read PPM data. KLOL is the #1 cuming Spanish station in Houston, and the PPM is cume driven.

David Eduardo wait for the change and then talk your gona look dumb once you read about the big changes comming to Houston cc cluster.......

Clear Channel has 5 FMs in Houston.

Here is how they rank in the people meter weeklies (stations change up or down several positions each week because the upper ranks are so tighly compressed) so I have given a range for the last few weeks. And Spanish stations, as a rule, have lower power ratios than English general market ones.

Ranked by share, not cume.
KTBZ 2nd or 3rd, occasionally 1st.
KODA 3rd to 5th
KKRW 6th to 8th.
KHMX 8th to 10th
KLOL 11th to 14th.

KLOL is the Hispanic cume leader. And it is highly unlikely that Clear would change any of the other 4 which are consistently in the top 10 in the 12+ ranking in the market. Top 10 stations do not change formats as a rule.

11th to 14th?

I thought it would do better than that in Houston.

What seems to be the problem?

No problem. It is doing very well. 11th to 14th is the range in the PPM weeklies where you find KLOL. Because the shares are very compressed at the top, there is less than a share of difference between #5 and #14 most weeks, so all the stations change position regularly... but the moves are tiny... a 4.1 to a 4.2 can mean going up two or three rank positions.

Omega sounds like you know somebody on the inside, yes or no? (Don't be scared) You sound very confident as if you work there!!! Whether David is right or wrong, he sounds as if he definetly knows his stuff about PPM!! The information you give is not on that level, but more like on an insider level. So why would someone on the inside be jabbing his jaw like a gossip queen who can't keep her mouth shut. There is no respect in that. Also if the night DJ's are gone then why do I still hear them on the air?

Omega has identified himself as a sidekick or assistant or production person (or all of the above) to Omar Romero, the local program coordinator for the La Preciosa network station in Dallas. He seems to believe that CCU is going to flip KLOL to La Preciosa, which is odd given how well it is doing in the PPM measurements and the fact that the "current" format is only 6 months old, and doing well in Houston and Miami alike.

How wrong you are my dear Eduardo.... KLOL will NOT be flipping to Preciosa so thats out of the question but it will morf into another format and it will have to replace its djs for fluent spanish speaking jocks.. I do have insight and im involved in a way but its got nothing to do with mr Omar out in Dallas! you want put a little wager david e on who takes the cake in Dallas on the next book?
I will from now on just sit back and let it happen i figured you guys would have liked to know what was going on before it happend!

Well, considering that there was a huge sample issue in April in Dallas, and the month only counts for 20% of the Spanish dominant sample, Dallas will be interesting. KESS had a huge share in May, and is poised to be absolute #1. KEGL, for example, dropped 90% 18-34 in May compared to April, so that one is anyone's guess. But KESS will be the leading Spanish station overall.

KLOL is modeled after WMGE in Miami, and Miami is Spanish leaning bilingual. Anyway, the English morning show on KLOL went off in January, and is now on KPTY where it got some good traction in the last two weeks in PPM.

I should have taken the bet. I was particularly impressed by the 0.0 in 18-34 for KEGL in June in 3-7 and 7-Mid.

KESS and KLNO both top 10 25-54. No KEGL there.

0.0? That's ridiculous. KEGL's incarnation of "Sunny" did better than that.
