KLSY

I have noticed several people attacking KLSY on this Board. I
would like to get a couple of things clear. I am new to town,
but find KLSY very listenable and a solid CHR-HOT/AC. The night
jock is the best in town and is growing in 18-34 and teen appeal.
The PD, is not "small market." He has worked in top ten markets
as a jock and was PD of the year in a medium market. To say he
cannot compete against STAR is just wrong. So what if their
PD and Morning Show have been in town 20 years. Maybe they haven't
had any good competition? I know several PD's that just go through
the motions. Doesn't their PD have a TV show? How much time can
he spend coaching his morning team, working on promotions. How
in touch is a 50+ year old male with music that appeals to 25-34 year
old women? Seems to me KLSY is in a perfect position to do very well
but it won't happen over night. Notice most of the KLSY gains are
at the expense of KBKS, which sounds like high school radio. You
build from the young end and as any smart programmer knows it takes
a bit longer to get the older folks. Since KLSY changed this winter,
KBKS has been hurt in mornings, mid-days and nights. STAR will take
a bit longer. Maybe it is KBKS or STAR that will go Country not KLSY.
Give the PD and staff a break.

Look, I know it may be tough, but the PD has his lineup in place, just
put the format on in February. KLSY has already caught KBKS, they might
just catch STAR and even give sister station KRWM a run. Give the staff
a break. Props to Bill West and Company for doing something unique and
taking on a 20 year station. Let's hope someone gets the same guts and
takes on KMPS. Just my view from the new guy in town.

Hey new guy!!! Shutup!!! You don't no friggin nuthin.
KLSY rocked with Mitch and Lisa, DK and Parker, now who
cares? The only thing ya got right is that KBKS, KLSY
or KPLZ should blow up and one take on KMPS. But Who cares
about these also ran stations. KUBE, KNDD (will Savage
be back on his old station or ????) and KISW are the playas
dude. These three already battle for 18-34 in the morning.
One will add Savage and it will be the war of the worlds.

SAVAGE RULES

Hey "broken record"!!!! Shut up. It's nice to read a logical post every once in a while with out seeing your friggin one-track-mind reply. I'm with ya on KLSY--they are sounding pretty good. They do need a better morning show, and the PD for STAR probably doesn't have a tough time coaching the morning show since he is a part of it.

For a bit on KLSY vs. KPLZ please see:

As far as KBKS vs KLSY, your opinion vs. reality:

> KBKS has been hurt in mornings...

Actually,Phase 1 of the spring, KBKS in mornings is 3rd 18-34 (normal position) KLSY is 21st...with an extrap of less than a .5 ! In teens KBKS beats KLSY by almost 17 shares...KLSY has less than a share.

>The night jock is the best in town and is growing in 18-34 and teen
appeal.

Not really. At night, KBKS is 4th, down from 3rd, while KLSY is 19th with lower shares than winter and down a half share from the fall. 18-34 KBKS is almost 6 points ahead at night while in teens, KBKS beats KLSY by almost 15 shares at night.

>Notice most of the KLSY gains are at the expense of KBKS, which sounds like high school radio.

I'm having a hard time seeing how you surmise that. KBKS in the first stand alone month of Spring just pulled it's biggest cume of almost the last year, pretty much right with KUBE. KLSY just had its 2nd lowest month in a year. High school radio? Have you listened to KUBE by any chance? In either case, KUBE and KBKS are the #4 and #5 billing radio stations in the market thru the first 6 months. KLSY is around 12 or 13th.

It's fine to have an opinion, even if you are from out of town. And while you might feel the way you feel, they are just your opinions as there's no basis yet in any meaningful way (ARB or revenue) to back up them up.

Let me try and shed some light on KLSY. Up until
2001 KLSY was the dominate AC radio station in Seattle,
Delilah actually got her Love Songs start at KLSY. It
was also a top 3 biller in the market. The trouble was
as KRWM went up, KLSY went down and they are owned by the
same company. The station has been in free fall since 2002.
They attempted to go HOT/AC in 2002 and retreated. They
tried again in 2004 with a new morning show and made no
impact. They are now trying again with what their salespeople
categorize as a station in between KBKS and KPLZ. Each change
has led to lower ratings and now they are at the lowest point
yet. Not sure what they next move will be, but rumors of Country
continue. KMPS is sold out and advertisers would love a second
option. My guess is listeners would too now that KAYO is gone.

In the immortal words of Smokey Robinson, "I Second That Emotion"

Excellent comments. KBKS in no way is being hurt by KLSY.
The cume is strong as ever on KBKS and they usually are third
or fourth place 18-34 behind anyone of these three
stations KUBE, KMPS and KISW, depending on the daypart.
While KUBE and KBKS were top five billers last year that is
not the case this year according to both CC and the revised MK
formulas. The issue with KBKS is that unlike KUBE, KMPS and KISW
they have not been able to establish themselves 25-54, which
is the sign of a very strong CHR. KLSY is not a challenge to
KBKS at this point, except 25-54, where both stations sit in
the 2 share range. My guess is KBKS is much more worried about
KUBE and maybe the END, who may be an 18-34 challenge with KRQI
gone.
