Zippo is the best they got! One of the only ones who is relaxed..havin' fun..devil may care. Some of the others sound like oh oh..I better be careful and do everything absolutely right 'cause the pd is listening. Bravo to recent post about lack of fun personalities. Bo and Jim on ZPS are a great example of a couple of guys hangin' out partyin'..havin an irreverent blast. Other morning shows...ya throw two, three or four into a control room and everyone laughs on cue regardless of what silly, non funny thing is said. Other dayparts..the feel is "ya better follow directives, or you're the next one on chopping block."

Used to be a saying around here: If you Missed Sonny Fox in the Morning, You Missed Something!" (Y-95)

Well, if you missed the Zip Dude on Sunday afternoon, 17-Feb-13, you missed this:

Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Han Solo...

AND Chris Christie will reprise his role as Java The Hut
(I almost drove into a tree with laughter)

Now that's something way better than Sonny Fox could come up with.

Apparently there are no limits to the ingenuity and imagination of the Zip Dude!

well, no offense to Zippo, but I've heard that joke before. I think on Conan O' Brien's show.

R

NO! Robert, say it isn't so....

That's NOT a ZippO Original?

OMG, I hope there was no copyright or trademark or intellectual property infringement!!

Apparently there are no limits to the ingenuity and imagination of the Zip Dude!

-okay, I shall have to pick out a Zippo original next time. Don't worry, I'll find one. (I've already commented on "Zip On Over")

It's common practice for entertainers to use jokes from other entertainers. This practice has gone on for many decades. Look at it this way though, a Zippo listener who doesn't watch Conan, still gets to hear the joke. ;) So it's all good. :)

Actually, I did write that joke just seconds after I saw the story about Harrison Ford on the web. I don't follow Conan's show. Probably, just such an obvious connection. Honestly, I'd own up to it if I had taken it.

Glad you got a laugh! ~JZ

Truth is, it's almost impossible to tell a joke without stealing it because the language and the subject has been around so long, somebody was talking about it years ago. The only difference is the actors (Chris Christie vs, say, Willard Scott)!

Also, people's minds usually work in similar ways. So, no, you weren't stealing Conan's joke so much as, with both of you being entertainers, you have a similar mindset and sense of humor!

Nice to see you chime in Zippo! 8)

Mind if I use it, Jim?

I think the more important distinction is that the character is named "Jabba" The Hut, not "Java." I thought oldies listeners were supposed to get Star Wars references right.

Oh come on.... There must be more important things in life to do than correcting a trivial error on a message board.

Hey, I know more about Y-95 then I do about Star Wars, quite literally.

And when I searched Java The Hut before I posted (just to be sure), it came up as a legit web hit. Seems to be one in Plainview, Texas and one in Anchorage, Alaska, too. Restaurants! I really wanted to say "Pizza the Hut" from the movie Space Balls in my post.

Wait a minute... I'm an "oldies listener"?

Okay, well, yea you're right!

I went to 'CBS Remote Saturday' last weekend in Arlington and spent most of my time talking with John Summers, zero time visiting The Fan, and only about 30 seconds talking to Leigh Ann.

I AM an oldies listener!

LOL! Pizza the Hut! Good one. :)

R

Forgot this:

When I walked into the Honda dealership where CBS Remote Saturday was being held, about 5 sales people approached me. I said to them, "Not here for a car, show me where the disc jockeys are."

They all pointed to K*LUV. They must be moldy oldies too.

I'm really surprised nobody mentioned using a Mr. Microphone on their radios as kids.

It never worked as well as it did in those corny commercials. Now I'm telling MY age.

I played with stuff like that. Believe that Radio Shack sold several FM Wireless Microphones that could be picked up on several frequencies on any FM radio.

The reason they didn't sound good is because they lacked an Optimod 8100A + XT Chassis. An AGC w/state of the art multiband limiting would have made it smoke.

So would having a 3000 watt PA with a grounded grid triode as the final stage! The high voltage power supply for the triode would have been dangerous for the kids..

They also likely didn't have pre-emphasis...

The Optimod would have provided the much needed pre emphasis too!
