KMAX-FM

Can anyone roll an aircheck on KMAX-FM for me today? I'd like to get a check of the station before it flips.

E-mail [email protected] if you can; I can record Nashville or Birmingham for a trade.

Following Bananarama's "Venus", a promo and a commercial, they just now switched to a computer-voiced "countdown" -- "T-minus 19 hours, 23 minutes and counting..." MAX-FM is dead.

Wow! Looks like KMAX-FM is dead. I knew the station wouldn't last too long. All I can say is....

R.I.P. Max.

Oh, no. "Maxwell" is out of work?! Poor John O'Hurley will have to get by on the millions he makes every year for acting, hosting game shows, appearing on ballroom dancing shows, a few dozen other voice-over jobs, and residuals for Seinfeld reruns.

Maybe we should take up donations.

Yeah, Apparently its going to be known as 957 The Wolf.

KMAX sent an e-mail on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 to a fan subscriber list announcing that "Max FM" was ending and a new format would begin on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 7:50am. The new format will be "fun, energetic, Bay Area focused and unlike any other station in the area."

The music stopped at noon on February 28, 2007 and was replaced with a computer voice countdown indicating a new format would occur in "18 hours, 2 minutes, 42 seconds and counting..." and that occassionally directed listeners to call numbers such as 415-777-7100 (SF Chronicle Metro Desk) or 415-954-7926 (ABC-7 TV Station) for more information.

As of 2:30pm, the KMAX website was down and in its place the following announcement:

Today is both a sad and exciting day here at 95.7 MAX FM. On one hand, we, like you, are saddened to see Max go away. We had a good run in the Bay area and truly enjoyed interacting with you, our Max fans. But, as a wise philosopher once said, all good things must come to an end.

And that leads me to the exciting news. We are preparing a brand new radio station that we believe you will like even more than Max. As a loyal Max fan you are among the first to hear about this station. While we can't tell you the name yet, this new station will be fun, energetic, Bay Area focused and unlike any other station in the area. We will debut this new radio station at 7:50 Thursaday morning.... and we sincerely hope you join us for the ride.''

http://www.957thewolf.com is registered to Entercom. and the website has a huge Paw Scratch on it.

I have the stunt and flip at the ready for 7:50am tomorrow.. So if you want a copy of the stunting and 7:50 flip let me know and I'll put it in a .zip file for ya.

what are they talking about? country is not bay area focused, the wolf won't last 9 months

Can anyone fill me in on this, I can't recall so many changes in radio with so many format flipps lasting in such short durations, could this possibly single the fate of radio as we now know it ?

Even the countdown is old stuff they did a countdown during the Bear to the Max flipp. If they flipp to country (the Bear failed with country) what makes them think a new country format will work now? or am I mistaken in the new line up?

they even did a countdown for the flip to y93 to 93.3 the wave, but its hella funny now, its just dead air, ay this is better than what it is coming to

I used to think my kids where playing with my presets, one day I'd hear rock on my channel then without warning on my way to work the next day I would hear spanish blasting from my same preset. Lately it's gotten even worse And you wonder what's wrong with radio today.

i would rather have oldies than country crap

I'm glad the Country format is returning to the Bay Area. But, who
will pick up the old Max format? Maybe KKSF?

Why would anyone pick it up? Max was a dismal failure.

I still think it could be done good but more upbeat, max fm just sounded like koit with some wow tracks mixed in

I believe Entercom has the programming instincts to make a Country station work. Don't dismiss the format potential, just because Bonneville wasn't able to execute.

It will be a tough battle for them, as KRTY is well entrenched in the market population San Jose, so they will have to play for the other 2/3rds of the market, unless their product is significantly different.
