Correct...the ONLY exception I am aware of is KHJ/L.A. They switched calls at one point, and then wanted to go back, but FCC said "no". So they switched to K-KHJ. Then they filed a complaint with FCC asking for KHJ because KKHJ, as a spanish language station, would go on the air once an hour with a legal I.D. starting with "Ka-Ka". FCC granted their wish....and probably SHOULD have based on the creativity alone!!!
Otherwise you see examples such as 1300-KKOL/Seattle, etc. and marketed as "KOL" to pay homage to their grandfathered station.
