KMCQ now 80's?

So again, I make the point, if you're not selling ads on a station then why wouldn't it be possible to work up some form of temporary programming agreement if one were interested in testing a new format? I understand you have to pay the bills, but if you're going to pay the power bill and not sell the actual format, it just seems like an opportunity.

I understand, but that's just not what First Broadcasting does.. they sell the entire station (not lease it).

I mean it is POSSIBLE they have a sales person out there, but I doubt it.

So I'm guessing instead of a simple :60 spot, you have to buy the whole damn station?

They ARE desperate, aren't they?....

OK (if the price is right), there maybe room for a Dominos Pizza 104-5 or a Wal-Mart 104, anything is possible these days. I mean if insurance companies can diversify into radio.....

As far as I know, in their Forks cluster they've put NO EFFORT into sales there.. can't iamgine they'd do that here either.

They just wanna get rid of it as soon as possible.

Well, getting rid of it is easy. It just the asking PRICE.....

To quote William Shatner:

Buyer: $190
William: Wuss, go lower
Buyer: $150?
William: Manby pamby
Buyer: $99?
William: Now you're negotiating.....

Im sure First Broadcasting will get a pretty penny for it. It is FAR from the best signal, but it's worth alot more then it was in The Dalles!

ANd it's "Namby Pamby" that Shatner says, I think

I don't know what the hell Shatner said exactly. All I know is I can't get this stupid TV commercial out of my head. Not any victory for commercial copy writers, usually when this happens, I look for an alternative instead.....

Maybe they will get a fortune, but these days I wouldn't hold my breath on it...

The most interesting thing about this story is the clear fact that had KMCQ/First Broadcasting treated the whole idea of coming into this market a lot better, they would never have had the issues they do now.

from what I've heard, they tried to bully their way in and in the process, just totally pissed off "one of the most prominent Class D stations in America" (according to FlyBush) - KMIH.

When KMIH filed to oppose this action in 2002, they still continued to oppose the educational station and it wasn't until sometime in 2007 that they apparently decided to "deal" with KMIH.....just think what COULD have been if only these knucklebrains had done this a bit more graciously!

Assume Frist had settled with KMIH in say, 2004.....TODAY THEY WOULD BE BROADCASTING FROM (guess) COUGAR MTN! Canada would not be an issue and they would clearly have the better signal for the Seattle area and beyond.

Greed and arrogance is the reason KMCQ is where it is today.....who knows how much fuel they are currently consuming with those generators on radio hill right now......it is also why the programming is so horrid! Now that the economy has totally tanked, I predict it will be a long while yet before this new so-called radio station gets:

a new owner
a new identity
new call letters
and
a new staff!

Kind of an update on KMCQ: I actually heard a live DJ on KMCQ today, I think. We had KMCQ on in the car on the way to the Sizzler in Lakewood(near Tacoma) where we went for dinner tonight. I don't think the dj said who his name was, but he did say he would be taking requests and that people could call him with requests, he also gave a phone number for people to call; the number had a 360 area code btw. Also, this was around 5:30 PM today(November 7th).

he say's on the air that he's got a female companion in the studio. ;)

Well all of us have had a female "companion" in the studio from time to time (except perhaps you guys at the Christian stations) so there's nothin' new. By the way, interesting name for a jock, Damien. From THE OMEN; Damien's family is unaware that he is actually the offspring of Satan and destined to become the Antichrist. Kinda ruins an otherwise nice name, eh??

I maintain they're gonna start showing in the book and they're nuts if they don't start running a few units per hour. These guys are business people after all. I say run 4 units per hour, one unit per break max! Sign up clients for 6 months or more. Although the idea of Dominos Pizza buying the whole thing and dubbing it "DOMINOS 104-5" sounds cool.

You actually expect First Broadcasting to hang onto this station for that long?

Actually I don't give a rats puh-toot if they own the station for 6 mintes or 6 decades. Get some cash coming in the door. Doesn't have to be a lot. But these folks are dumber than all the cows in Pierce County if they don't take advantage of their niche.

As I've said before, in some cases, First Broadcasting doesn't wanna put forth the effort.

Look at KBIS 1490/KBDB 96.7 in Forks.. the only stations for 40 miles.. they could easily turn a profit there, but they are LOSING money on a monthly basis.

Have you ever talked to a cow in Pierce County? They're a lot smarter than you'd think. I'd say they're smarter than some of the people there but that would be really cruel. :)

hey, at least there aren't cows AT the transmitter site.

At one station I worked at, the cows were allowed to roam the site after the station purchased the land.... boy did it stink.. you also had to watch where you stepped.

I was listening to KMCQ today and songs were skipping all over the place. About ten in a row, until the signal dropped out on me heading north that is. What would cause that? Isn't it all digital? Could it be the audio equivalent to the occasional tiling on my digital cable TV service? It was very annoying.

It's possible their "automation system" is a consumer-grade 6-pack changer running burned compilation CDs - and it's getting tired already.

Aaaah yes the good old days of taking the daily base current reading. Some of you don't know about base current readings....ask your station engineer. Also ask them about AM stereo and Quadrophonic FM....technology that went no where...like HD radio will end up
