KMCQ Playing more 80s.

Very disappointed that KMCQ seems to be playing more and more 80s records in their mix. Today I heard When The Night Comes by Joe Cocker which was a late 1989-90 record! It was played back to back with Elton John's I Guess Thats Why They Call It The Blues from 83-84. Come on KMCQ. You are better than that. There are enough stations playing songs from the 80s. Stick to the 60s and 70s with an occasional 50s record. There are too many great records from those three decades for the station to be going into the 80s as well.

Wow... really? I can't believe they would do that. What nerve.

I know right? Who would want to hear an occasional song from the 80's... I mean were any good songs even produced in the 80's LOL

Good grief. So much sarcasm and snottiness here. Must be a required personality trait if you want to work in radio. I have no issues with 80s songs, and right now, the occasional record from that decade on KMCQ isn't the end of the world because they are still not up and running with a full slate of commercials, on air personalities etc. so they play a lot of music. My concern is when they are a full fledged station, there is going to be less room on their playlist and when they insert 80s records, music from the 60s and 70s (the station's slogan by the way) will be neglected. The reason that KMCQ has gotten as many listeners as they do with no station promotion is because of what they've been playing, 60s and 70s music, and they go deep too, not just the same old tired oldies. If they abandon that programming and just become a boring run of the mill oldies station like KJR, then why should people continue to tune in, other than to hear American Top 40 on Sunday mornings? KMCQ is great right now. I just don't want them to screw it up.

Are you new here. Try no commercials. Read the history of this station. Not try to be snotty, but this horse has been beat to death.

No, I am not new here and I have been listening to KMCQ from their beginning. You are wrong about NO commercials. Granted there are not many, but they do have them. Currently I hear spots for Epson Printers and for Little Creek Casino. They've also aired spots for Don Willis Furniture not to mention all the commercial spots during the At-40 broadcasts on Sunday mornings. Why fault or ridicule someone for being passionate about a radio station they enjoy?

Unfortunaly, 1980s is getting more and more common on oldies radio...I hear the Beach Boys "Kokomo" from 1988, a LOT on KJR. Stick with "Surfin USA" if you want Beach Boys music. Very few commercials are played, occasionally I'll hear one for KSTW 11 and some others, but most of the time it's music or PSAs. Get some live DJs on there and KMCQ will be an awesome station.

My apologies for not being on for several days...the computer is ultra-slow and may have some viruses. Need to install a cleaner ASAP!

From the 104.5 KMCQ website:

Get ready for non stop hits! Seriously, we only play good music! All the hits from the 60's and 70's and if you listen long enough you might hear a classic jam tossed in from the 80's!

Discussion over.

Says you. I am a listener and entitled to my opinion. If I want to continue to discuss this I will.

Discuss it all you want but at the end of the day they are doing exactly what they said they were going to do on their website.... If you don't like it you can always use the tools at your disposal and turn the channel or turn off the radio....

I know it is going to sound crazy but KMCQ isn't making choices based on what one listener thinks... There is actually a method to their madness which seems to be working in it's own small way....

Trust me, it's just getting started; this thread size will double in a matter of days. Sit back and watch the armchair programmers dispense their expertise.

I'd actually enjoy hearing some 80's if it wasn't the same old, tired 80's we hear everywhere else on the dial. There was some cool stuff to come out of the new wave movement - some of it very retro in appeal - Squeeze, Marshall Crenshaw, Crowded House, Los Lobos, hey even throw in a 70's/80's rockabilly once in a while, like Robert Gordon. Probably never happen, though.

I like 80s music a lot. I just feel the decades don't play well together. We need at least one station playing 60s and 70s exclusively. I would like another station in Seattle to play mostly 80s records (artists like you mentioned), with some early 90s thrown in. The Point was a great station about a decade ago. A station ahead of its time that's time perhaps has come. Someone should at least try again. KMCQ needs to stay 60s and 70s as their on air station liners state. I don't care what it says on their website.

Oh that's weird. It was available password-free earlier this morning. Sorry.

I should say that the KMCQ TV commercial that I viewed online this morning was done by KSTW-TV, uploaded last Friday on Vimeo, and quite well-done, in my opinion. The logo looks good, and they are promoting music from the 60's and 70's, exclusively.
