KMCQ Streaming Volume Levels

I can't understand why anyone would listen to KMCQ on FM or Internet for more than 30 seconds.

The quality of the audio is awful. There are no high frequencies. It's all muddy midrange.

I can help you with that one. Because we are music fans too, not just radio fans. Yes, FM sounds better than AM, CDs sound better than mp3s, HD sounds better than satellite. But if someone is playing music i enjoy I will listen to it on any of them anytime and be happy.

Maybe what KMCQ should do is combine the stream and station audio together. The last time I listened to KMCQ online, there weren't any high frequencies, although it sounded better than KXXO, that stream really has issues. When listening through speakers that have little base as it is, it sounds like it's coming through a tunnel. You can tell there isn't any base in KMCQ's stream, but it's not quite up that high.

Bean9 is right, if the music is good I am there.
The stream sounds better after they did some work Saturday. There is a Hi and Lo on the stream player and depending on your bandwith it does make a difference.

Bean,

Let us know on radio info when you and Suits do a podcast! Looking forward to hearing it. I'm with you, a music fan of all era's and formats.

Overall, I think the fidelity of KMCQ is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for just about every electronic gadget that requires you to wear 'earbuds'. Or has speakers no bigger than a dime each. And there's a LOT of them.

If you are going to slam a station you should at least listen. Lonely Summer and AQH have it wrong. I listen all the time and they never play KoKomo or the others lonely summer said. I do hear an early 80's sometimes but rare.

Again, off topic Bill where are you when we need you.

I am pretty sure they were being sarcastic and a little facetious
You got it! Oops...that's 1989 Roy Orbison

or 1995 Bonnie Raitt :p

I gotta cry major foul on KMCQ. They just played Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea by George Harrison from his 2002 album Brainwashed. What's up with that??? That's a bigger violation of the 60s and 70s format than Got My Mind Set On You.

toonces2u I thought that was odd too, I called and yes someone answered the phone.

Was told it was a request and came off of the "Living In The Material World" CD bonus track. I looked it up and it was on a remastered 2006 issue.

Sounds like the board op did a no no. we have all been there. ;D

I don't know...I actually kinda like it at times when they throw in some newer songs from artists that were in their prime from back in the 60s & 70s. As long as they don't play Madonna! KZOK has done it in the past with their "Then and now" segments (or whatever it was called). One time they ended up playing Styx's "Fooling Yourself" as the "Then" song, then followed it up with "Everything Is Cool" as the "Now" song (which was off of their 1999 album, "Brave New World".)

There are enough stations that do that. If you enjoy it, listen to KZOK. Why can't we have one station in Seattle that sticks truly to 60s and 70s only? KMCQ has few commercials and no on air personalities right now so it leaves a little bit a room to throw in an 80s record occasionally. They also have a deep catalog playlist which is awesome. However, in my opinion, there are SO many great records from the 60s and 70s to play. Why not just leave the 80s decade and on to the other stations? I guarantee you that the majority of the KMCQ audience is not tuning in to hear a Huey Lewis & The News or Phil Collins record. It just seems to be a slippery slope when you allow an 80s record here and there right now, then you expand to a couple an hour, then three etc. Like I said, there are too many great records from the 60s and 70s that there is no need to play records beyond 1979. In fact, that should be the cut off year for KMCQ period. The same goes for Ted Alexander and his throwing in an 80s record here and there "just for spice". We don't need to hear Laura Brannigan Ted. Stick to the 60s and 70s for the 10,000 Oldies Show.

It's all about the advertizers, I think 60s and 70s are getting out of the desired target demo. However, I think what they don't realize is that then younger folks like myself won't know these songs in 20 or 30 years, and unless I have a CD or iPod and play it for my kids, they probably won't know them either. My favorite oldies stations would have to be those of CBS, which play the stuff that KBSG used to play a little more than KJR-FM does, but not diving into the obscure songs like KMCQ does.

I think it sounds good.. If it were me, I'd be pulling the stream audio directly from the back of the processor though... Overall, the station could sound a little tighter.
