KMKS-Bay City Now 100,000

Radio girl said:
I, along with allot of the staff at 102.5 were at KIOX/KXGJ when that happened.

The difference is the Sandlins have owned KMKS for over 22 years, and have a vested intrest in the communities we seve. Sure you can say "money talks', but anyone who knows the Sandlins know they are geared different from other broadcasters.

I predict in 5 years they will still own it, and have the new tower built.

Ahh another person done in by the Libermans......(you are in good company..Have you talked with...oh what was his name?...the former "engineer" of KIOX/KXGJ..also I think he did mornings on one of them?? He stayed on with the stations after Liberman took over but was cut later)

Is STEVE Sandlin (engineer around SE TX who is now at the college in Huntsville) associated with this family of the same name??

The only problem with anything they do is 102.1 Houston and 102.5 Beaumont......as long as those two are there, there are contour restrictions that would prevent anything better into Houston...

Yep, the Libermans gave me my first cold taste of broadcasting.

I think you are talking about Tim Michales. He is still in Bay City. He works for the sherriffs dept. I think as a dispatcher...at least he's still behind a mic....of sorts anyway.

I don't think Steve is related to the Sandlin's. They are both originally from the Virgina area. Mr. and Mrs. sandlin are both engineers. They used to work for KPRC-TV, and Mr. Sandlin also did a long sting at NASA.

Look for private email...tell Tim hi for me..

Getting back to the KMKS power increase: Their signal is noticeably better at my NW Harris County location. Listenable level, although many dropouts when driving around--but seems to be consistently there. Previously it was hit or miss depending on tropo conditions.

Mediafrog, thanks for the update. Although we are not actively targeting that area, it's nice to know. I still think we will have a better gauge on the effects of the upgrade in the next few days once these conditions have completely left our area.

I pick up your station loud and clear but that shouldn't be a surprise since I live in Port Lavaca which is about 25 miles from Palacios. Is the actual tower on 521 near the nuclear plant? I'm just asking because I like looking at that kind of stuff and make frequent trips between here and Lake Jackson to pick up "supplies"

Jay, i dont know the actual tower height...between 4oo-500, but I know it's in Collegeport.

Poops, thanks for the kudos. are you getting us in a building, in your car or both?

Hi Radio Girl,

In the vehicle y'all come in great. At home somewhat patchy inside, unless the radio is next to a window, and at work in Freeport, I can't pick y'all up in the office (metallic building). Hope this helps, and please keep doing what y'all are doing.

Poops

I believe that may be Liberman's tower (KIOX and KXGJ)....Let me check the FCC database and I'll post the links to them.

This past Saturday (7/14), the reception was spotty on Beechnut from 59 to Beltway 8. When i got to Kirkwood and Beechnut, I tuned north and carried a fairly decent signal all the way to Alief-Clodine Road.

On my way home Sunday from Rosenberg to Bellville, I lost a listenable KMKS signal at Bill Heard Chevrolet in Sugarland. I believe that is Highway 6, after that it faded, and pretty fast. By the time I hit the West Belt, the signal was obliterated. You weren't kidding, Radiogirl. You have a MUCH better signal into Richmond/Rosenberg now.

Thanks guys for all the reports. Makes me feel like I am part of one big happy family! Course it is radio, So I guess I should say one big "disfunctional" happy family....LOL ;)
