KMVK HD-2

I tried to tune in to the Oasis on the HD radio this morning and it wasn't there. Where it used to say Fort Worth/Dallas Oasis Smooth Jazz it now reads Oasis Legends of Jazz - but there is no sound. The regular stream online still plays but nothing on the HD Radio that I have had for five days. Hopefully, it was just a technical glitch but if anyone has an HD Radio can you please check yours? Many thanks!

Kinda makes me wonder if all these stations running HD programming, just slap a basic system together in a closet, and never bother to check it. :-\

Just tuned it in, says "Legends of Jazz" and it just voice ID'd "Smooth Jazz", there's audio and sounds like the same limited few tracks they've been playing, as usual. I've been resorting to internet radio for my smooth jazz fix lately.

My experience with my HD radio is that some of the stations programming on HD-2 are not exactly putting a minimum of effort into the process.
I have noticed many times, for instance, that KPLX H-2 is down. I've called to the station asking about it and the receptionist usually doesn't even know what I'm talking about. Now I just ask for engineering and tell whoever answers that the KPLX H-2 is down. Each time they were unaware of it.

Yeah, I noticed that most FM's websites have a link to their HD-2 stream. The Wolf does not. However, their CHR format is better IMHO than anything on the FM dial.

You're right and it's one reason why this technology has failed to become even mildly popular. By comparison, if one of the XM channels went out, you can bet the folks at XM would know it.

I am glad you brought that up! Mine was doing that and I thought something was wrong with the radio. Where are you? I am in the mid-cities.

I wonder if it's the way they have the bandwidth divided between the stations... that the HD2 doesn't have enough to reliably play it's stream?

I also just got an HD radio, I'll have to listen here downtown Big D and see what I get.

Well, The Oasis (2) has been gone all afternoon and it is saying Classic Jazz/Legends of Jazz since about noon and there is no sound. All other HD-2s are working as usual. Perhaps someone had too much to drink and spllied their margarita in David Henry's coat closet and shorted out the Oasis. (he had a company party today). Hehehe. ;D Listen to 99.5 HD-2 and give me your honest opinion. As far as CHR radio goes - that RAWKS! It is what KISS should be.

But..... this is the only HD-2 station that I listen to that drops out unexpectedly for 2-3 seconds, and that on a regular basis, maybe once oevery 10-15 minutes.

Ah HA! If it is happening to others too, it's THEM causing it, and not reception problems I thought I was having. Yes... good to know.

Well in theory, it could be reception problems that are screwing up the decoder on HD receivers. Of course it also works the other way around, and it could be an encoding issue at the station's end.

Kinda like web streaming dropouts, ya know?

It's exactly like that! Apparently, this is such a problem for some installations that iBiquity released a series of white papers on best networking practices for HD Radio installations. The signal from the HD2 importer has to reach the transmitter site reliably 100% of the time. If the importer is at the studio end and going through a congested business network for example, the problem being described here can happen.

Of course, it could be other things too. The audio card in their importer may have issues or the machine itself might.

Been tuned to KMVK HD-2 for almost 3 hours this morning monitoring, no audio at all so far.

I just called MOViN' and told whoever answereed the request line about the HD-2 problem. He is notifying engineering. Funny thing - when I told him my name was Jeff he asked if I was jeffdfw or jeff715. LOL! ;D "It just makes you feel good!"

I just checked it again. The HD1 (same as analog channel) is fine but the HD2 has dead air.

Guess he knew it had to be one for you two, considering you are the only two who care so passionately about it.

Really? Hmph~ I thought there were a few others that liked smooth jazz. Am I wrong? Charles123, JayDavis??? anyone? ::)
