KMVN - Movin 93...no ratings?

It is possible to over think demos. It's both an art AND a science and it seems to me that the science has taken over too much. Kelly Clarkson into (or out of) a disco tune? BAD BAD BAD!

It's not the disco, it's themix into other stuff...

IMHO.

 maybe the rick and rick show, rick dees and rick cummings....2 guys that would do a tremendous oldies show on krth-fm. they new fresh new talent, high energy and new management in place. time for jeff s to say, "you know hat guys, your my friends, but this is business!" Rick, step aside....both of you.

I finally took the time to stream Movin' 93.9 to see what all the griping is about... because I mean, c'mon, surely a station that's spent millions for promotion and hired Dees can't sound that bad, right?

Uughhh.... it's pretty bad.

1. Do they run the same promos that they do on the stream? I just heard about 5 promos in a row (that would be scattered throughout the day on-air) about how "I listen to 93.9 because it's that station where people shake their butt." The ad is funny as a novelty...but to build a whole campaign around it with fake listener calls really makes the station sound despereate. "What do we have to advertise? ..... Oh, quick! Promote the butt shaking commercial."

2. Dees sounds too formatted. He sounds like a Hot AC jock in market #30. Is Emmis holding him back? He just took contest listeners who had to guess "what song is that? You're right....the Backstreet Boys!" Wow! That was tough!

3. How can you play Akon and Donna Summer in the same hour?

In the end I am very disappointed. I always dreamed of a station rising up to challenge KIIS and become a great LA contender again. Movin' is sadly a step in the wrong direction.

Drunk board op.....

I just heard some Kobe Bryant promo play twice on top of Donna Summer. (10:53 AM) This is shameful for LA radio.

what i would try with movin, the old power 106 drops and station i.d.s. i shure do miss the sound of power 106 back in the days.listening to all of my tapes ,makes me wonder if movin might do that....

Now they're playing "Never Knew A Love Like This" by Stephanie Mills. I don't mind the song, but what sort of train wreck is this? I thought they were a Rhythmic CHR. They sound more like a Gold AC.

It's an interesting idea ... they'd need to be re-worked with a completely seperate station identity, but it doesn't mean the base sound of the station couldn't be the same.

In the end though Emmis can make Movin' work ... but I think they're confused where they're going. If they want to go after KOST and KBIG, then pull out the new rhythmic hits and stick with the gold. But to hear Stephanie Mills go to the new Lady Marmalade song and see Dees shaking his butt on the same screen is very surreal.

Robert...

Please get in touch with me about your Power 106 tapes. I have tons of tapes too (including Boomer) and want to see if we can do a trade or something.

 I've been tryin to get on MOVIN since it's inception back in August of 2006. Jimmy Steal called me in Because Rick Cummings highly reommended to Jimmy to consider me, Because Rick Cummings thinks I'm a good mixer. Unfortunately, The outcome when i sat down and met with Jimmy seemed very positive at the time. He took my number, And told me that he was still several week away from making a decision. So far It has now been 10 months since that meeting. Everytime I try to follow up with Jimmy. He keeps telling me that "These things take time, And that they will call me when they are ready for me. They went from having 0 mixers to now having 3 mixers. They are not rady for me but they seem to be ready for other mixers.

if only they gave me a chance. I think I could really help turn the station around. Unfortunately, I guess there is too much politics.

So here I am.

Take Care

DJ Speedy K.
