KNLY 91.1 FM

If anybody was curious. KNLY has not been on the air in over 5 months. It’s been making KAMU HD come in easily during tropos.

Personally I think it’s better they’re off. If all they can transmit is terrible audio or dead air.

I don't understand stations that do this. Transmitters are a lot of money and so is tower rent and probably engineering services. Not to mention electricity bills for those things. Oh well not my money haha.

That whole entire deal was done in correctly from the beginning. When Hector Guevara/Centro Cristiano De Vida Eterna sold that station for nearly 500k the buyer had no idea it was a non-comm.

How would they not know? I don’t even work in the radio industry and I know this.

Because you know doesn't mean it is universal knowledge. I was getting my car worked on when the owner's wife complained about KSBJ saying they said they couldn't sell her advertising, yet, her words, they're running commercials for Christian Brothers. She said since they lied to her she was going to stop contributing to the station. I explained underwriting and commercials and it was true they couldn't sell her advertising.

Yes, but in your example, the owner's wife wasn't outright buying KSBJ, b-turner. If the story told by Astros2023 is true, the KNLY buyer was nothing more than a fool for not performing the necessary due diligence prior to acquiring the station. Of course, I have a really hard time believing that story is 100% on the up and up, so there is that.

I heard commercials for McCombs Ford West in San Antonio on an LPFM there recently.
"McCombs Ford West, Simply the Best!"

Is that safe for LPFMs to air?

That would constitute a violation of underwriting rules. Simply the best is comparative.

RoseCityMedia: I never said she was buying KSBJ but provided the statement as evidence the average person not in radio does not know frequencies below 92.1 on the dial are non-commercial. I agree, the buyer of KNLY would know or should have if they did the very minimum of due diligence. Then again I know Hector and will stop there.

However, if that phrase has been used as the company slogan for, let's say, decades, one may argue that its inclusion in the sponsor ID is just "part of the name". For example, I know a fairly strict non-com that has sponsorships from a bedding firm known as "Low-Cost Mattress" where "Low Cost" is part of the name.

the buyer had no idea it was a non-comm.
It makes sense why they think it covers The Woodlands well. Signal was terrible there and I’m sure if KTSU and KPVU were to run HD it wouldn’t be heard at all there

There’s a very weak signal coming out of 95.3 in The Heights. Sounds like Hector Guevara but it’s not loud or clear enough to confirm it’s him. Definitely not the same programming from 94.1.

Maybe, but I would have thought I could hear this station closer to my house on Rankin and 45 but no. I’m hearing lots of static with rock music and also picking up AIR 1 don’t know from where though. No sign of KZLD-LP here. It was louder in the heights

Possibly that 94.9 translator is on 95.3 now. And that’s impressive with Air1. There might have been some tropos. I usually lose it going south on 45 right past 99

Nope, K235CS is still on 94.9, although the CP for 95.3 was granted 2 1/2 years ago. Appears all that would be involved is rotating the directional antenna from a WSW orientation to due south, while changing the frequency. Power remains 250 watts from the same location. CP expires 9/15/23.

They don't seem to really be following the directional pattern anyways. I hope they will if they go to 95.3 to protect KTTF

Friday night it was back with dead air and has been off since Saturday. I just checked now and I only get a weak KVUJ
A year ago today was the last time 91.1 KNLY has been on the air. (Unless they’ve been on for a few minutes at a time when I haven’t checked). Still don’t see any STAs filed.
