KNX onto … 97.1??

I knew the billing data David Eduardo recently shared suggesting KNOU outbilled KTWV was suspicious.

(Not his fault, mind you. He was merely referencing the figures from an outside source.)
If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was mentioned that KTWV is cheaper to run than KNOU.

And they have not gone jockless today. Julia is still in the air with her scheduled 10a-3p shift. And I guess KNX will be running the Six Flags Magic Mountain Ticket Giveaway that still being promoted on the website as starting today????

KNOU's morning show was piped in from Phoenix and the cost of its PM drive jock was spread across multiple stations.

Sorry, not buying that KNOU was more expensive to run than The Wave, unless we're talking a few hundred grand to maybe $500,000 in variance over a full year.

If history serves, the KNOU call letters may stay. KCBS simulcast is KFRC-FM, KYW simulcast is WPHI-FM, WBBM simulcast is WCFS-FM.
KCBS FM was already in use in LA. WBBM FM was already in use in Chicago. KYW probably can't use the call letters for their FM as CBS is still using them for the TV station and they are only grandfathered for the AM. They might be able to use KNX FM.

Unfortunately, KLAC is no WFAN or WEEI. Two strong brand names.
True, but you would think having the LA Dodgers would help with identity here.
It literally started a month ago. Give it time to build up enough cume and add personalities on there. It will be some time before any discussion starts in on another flip.
Oops sorry. It's really only been a month? Yeesh!

This is 100% correct.

CBS retained the rights to the shared call letters, with Entercom/Audacy gaining rights to use them for 20 years. WCBS, KCBS, WBBM, WWJ, KYW, and KDKA will eventually have to find new brands as will iHeart and Beasley's shared WBZ Boston and some of the Sports stations like WJZ-FM Baltimore whereas KNX and WINS will not.

KTWV has a relatively old average listener age, and the format is hard for agency buyers to understand. But it is easy to maintain, with very limited music work done each month and no high-cost, high-maintenance talent.

Nothing at the FM side that the music on 97.1 is going to completely stop in less than an hour. Nothing like throwing your last batch of loyal listeners under the bus with a total shock to the system.

Interesting thought, but looking at the new logo, they're already referring to themselves as KNX at 97.1 FM. Also call letters issued by a regulating authority (FCC) is separate from intellectual property
Yes, but what claim to intellectual property would a streaming service have when it's using call letters that could be issued by the FCC?

When Audacy’s NYC all-newsers migrate to FM, they’re going to do it simultaneously. No way are they going to throw either of the stations not moving to FM under the bus.

And it’ll be the death rattle for the AM dial altogether.
Agreed and if one of them goes to 94.7 with its inferior signal that one will still feel like it went under a smaller bus.

interesting tidbit on KNX’s “In Depth” program leading into the simulcast, apparently KNX has the highest share of female listeners in comparison to the other all-newsers in their portfolio.

And this had been in the works for weeks in total secrecy, with staffers not saying anything.
