KNXV-TV/ABC College Football

Did ABC affiliate channel 15 screw up by airing three college football
games today? At least that's what was in their listings from several
sources.

A spot check of listings for WABC-TV, two Mountain zone affils (DEN/SLC),
plus KGUN-TV Tucson, reveals they all scheduled only two games at
12:00pm and 3:30pm ET, plus normal prime time (Harry Potter movie).

KNXV-TV meanwhile, added a "why is this on here--it's not Pac 10"
4:00pm PT game and blew off ABC prime. This was a "bye week" for
the ABC/ESPN Saturday night national game(s) at 8:00 ET/5:00 PT.

On the left coast, both El-Lay and Frisco listings had the 3:30 ET/12:30PT
and the 4:00 PT games, but no 12:00pm ET/9:00am PT.

I think there's an NC-two-A (TV jock jargon ;D) rule that limits ABC affils
to two "day" games on Saturdays which includes the 4:00 PT regional slot
but not the national prime time slot (8 ET/5 PT).

Keith, what's your take on this?

I was watching the World Series so I wasn't even paying attention to that late ABC game. It didn't look too interesting anyway. As to why KNXV carried 3 games, I have no idea.

BTW, the Sunday night NFL games are on NBC/Channel 12 now, not ESPN. Monday Night Football is on ESPN.

I think he was referring to the Saturday night college game that ESPN/ABC usually shows.

Again today (October 28), while ABC/ESPN takes another "bye week"
from its prime time Saturday college football game(s), KNXV-TV is,
per the program schedule on its website, airing three college football
games--the two daytime ABC slots at 9:00am and 12:30pm PT plus
a 4:00pm PT "left coast only" regional game.

This week the 4:00pm is a Pac-10 game unlike the two "no-names"
last week. Also unlike last week, KNXV does indicate it will air the
regular ABC prime at 7:00 MST (another Harry Potter movie). Whether
that will slide or be a JIP after the expected sports runover is unknown
at this time.

A spot-check of listings for WABC-TV New York and two Mountain
zone stations (DEN/SLC) show only the two daytime game slots
(12:00pm and 3:30pm ET) airing plus normal prime time. Same for
KGUN-TV Tucson. El-Lay and Frisco stations show the second daytime
game (12:30 PT) plus the 4:00 PT Pac-10 regional. This is all a mirror
of what they did last week.

So the big Q is--did KNXV again "screw up" by carrying three "daytime"
games instead of the perceived max of two? And if three is legal,
why didn't KGUN also carry the Pac-10 game? Or both stations air only
the second day game plus the 4:00 regional, as the left coasters are?
