Re: The Whereabouts of Former KWG Employees
I can take a whack at a few of these!
Matt Dillon, alive and well.
Lance Ballance went to KOST in L.A. and was there for EVER. He just recently went to another station in L.A.
Pat Kelley was working at Modesto's Sunny 102 for what seemed like EVER. Haven't heard him for a while, but I haven't tuned in.
Tim Anthony is working at KRTY in the East Bay. Just talked to him a little over a month ago. All is well.
Ed Garcia bounced around a bit, and after his last firing from KSTN went East. Last I heard he was playing with talk radio, doing his far left schtick. He hangs out here on these boards as user- kestrel.
Rodney Bond. Hmmm.. How can you even call that guy a DJ? He had a horrible speech impediment and was really just keeping the chair warm. First opportunity, he was gone, replaced with someone who could form a sentence.
Tim Robinson was a super ncie guy! When he got canned, it was sad. He worked for a Salvation Army store for a while last I heard.
Bud Kress in still in Sacramento and last I heard was pulling weekends at Y92. His username was something like bud1230 or something along those lines.
Candy Stevens was working at Modesto's KATM as 'Candy West' until earlier this year. Don't know where she is now.
Chrys Frazier was at KJOY along with Dave Bowling and Mike McKnight, but haven't heard her in a while. She always had a weird sounding 'accent' to her delivery. She pronounced the 'S' sound as 'SHhh'. I thought after all these years, some PD would have broken that habbit of hers.
Jenny West is a tattle-tail. She did her best to get me fired in 1991. It worked. She told on me for cueing a CD on the (then) new Denon CD cart player. I cued past some crud to get to the meat of the intro to back-time to the network. She walked in on a weekend and heard the CD 'chirping' in the cue speaker as I cued. She screamed at me that I was breaking the new CD player, I told her 'If it will break it, why do they put the cue buttons right on the front panel then?'. She screamed to Bill that I was abusing equipment and that was all it took. Unreal! Bee-awtch.
Then, there's Bill Jeffries. Man, that guy taught me a lot. I love him for it. However, it wasn't until I went to the bay area and worked for a REAL PD that I learned what an idiot Bill was. Maybe it was my age, but if Bill hit me today like he did then, I would have owned the station. I understand he needed to get through to me, but to actually STRIKE a jock?
I also remember 'Big Al Bondi' and Paul Shinn and 'Christine' and who could forget Dirk Kooyman.
Last I heard, Big Al was managing a Radio Shack! What an awesome guy.
I have no clue what happened to Christine. I forget her last name, but it was something with a latin sound. Sanchez maybe? I drew her name for the Christmas party gift exchange. She had just moved into a new home in the country and was accepting house type things. I gave her live chickens! She LOVED them!
Working at KWG/B101 was the most fun I ever had in radio. Every radio job I had after was just 'chasing that high' so to speak. No radio station was ever as fun. Now, the KWG/B101 radio station as a whole doesn't even exist anymore. I miss it VERY much.
I quit 3 times and got fired twice. I only took they keys off my keyring once. Once, I was unemployed for a whole weekend, and asked back on Monday. That was the longest time I was ever gone. When I left for the bay area in the early 90's, I was only going there looking for a station like KWG/B101. I worked in the bay for 7 years, making KILLER money, but not having fun. Not like the fun I had at KWG/B101.

Madmansam said:Let's see.. LANCE BALLANCE went to work at a radio station in Los Angeles. Don't know if he is still there? I think PAT KELLEY is working at Citadel's KESP-970 Modesto on a Golf Talk Show? Last I heard, BILL JEFFRIES is in Tucson Arizona. Out of the radio business of course. I believe CANDY STEVENS is in Oregon. Is she still in the business? ROBERT BERTANI got in the culinary arts business and is out of radio. JENNY WEST went south to Merced to cohost a morning oldies show at KABX-97.5. Is she still there? I know CHRYS FRASIER worked briefly at KJOY-99.3 doing the evening show. MATT FOOR worked at Weberstown Mall. KWG C.E. ALAN GRAFT passed away some time ago. How about the others?Tyler Durden said:Madmansam said:Hi Tube Shortwave, When I have a chance, I'll PM you later. I have a lot of KWG memories, I remember when they used to be on Center Street, but i also remember when they were on Stratford Circle near Dave wong's on Pershing before that. KWG was Easy Listening/MOR until 1981 when they switched to DELTA COUNTRY 1230. they remained Country until 1982 when they switched to OLDIES (guessing it was on June 25, 1982). They remained OLDIES until around July of 1996 then they switched to SPANISH AC (LA BONITA).SILVERADO BROADCASTING really screwed up a legendary radio station.Tube Shortwave said:Nope, not Matt or Dirk. I thought my 'real name' was in my profile. Just looked, its not. PM me and I will discuss.
BTW, Dirk Kooyman is a stellar human being. Ultra good guy. Matt Foor was working as a P.R. guy for the Weberstown Mall in Stockton last time we talked.Hard to think of them as a CATHOLIC RADIO STATION today (yes I do know KWG was briefly owned by SUSAN CARSON from 1997-99). During the oldies era, I remember DJ's such as KEVIN MANNA (The original Morning Man before being replaced by BILL JEFFRIES), MATT FOOR, DIRK KOOYMAN, CANDY STEVENS, JENNY WEST, MAGIC MIKE DAVIS, ROBERT BERTANI, CHRYS FRAISER, LEE PITT, DAVE BOWLING and many others that escape my mind at the moment. I vividly remember the stunt that BILL JEFFRIES did back around either 1988 or 1989 where he supposedly lost a bet with CANDY STEVENS and had to broadcast in the nude. Boy those are cherished memories!!! ;D
Here are some more names:
MATT DILLON, PAT KELLEY, TIM ANTHONY, LANCE BALANCE, ED GARCIA, RODNEY BOND, TIM ROBINSON, BUD KRESS and some others. They were all there when the stations moved to Pacific Avenue.
Where are a lot of the old KWG jocks? No idea where most of them are now. Where is Bill?
