Kobe Bryant, Basketball great, at 41

Once again, the "media" obsesses over a story that should have been
mentioned only in passing and only on the day it occurred. People far
better die each and every day yet we don't hear about them. There
were and are far more newsworthy stories out there than the repetitive
crap we get as news..............

My personal thought is that as much as the man loved basketball and made it his life
Kobe Bryant probably would have wanted the games to go on.

I can't see any league postponing a full slate of games for the death of one of its retired stars. MLB, even with all the room for makeup games, has only postponed full schedules in the days following 9/11, and a major factor in that decision was the grounding of all domestic flights. It didn't do so for Babe Ruth or Cy Young or Mickey Mantle, so it's improbable that it will shut down for a day in memory of Hank Aaron or Ken Griffey Jr. or Mariano Rivera. Same with the NHL -- if Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux should die, I'd figure only the Oilers (and maybe the Kings) and the Penguins will postpone. And the NBA has seen greats like Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson die without wiping so much as one game off the schedule, so how can one logically expect it to cancel multiple games for the (hypothetical) deaths of Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or the all-too-real death of Kobe Bryant?

I realize we live in an age of exaggerated public grief. Witness the elaborate roadside memorials and "look at us, we are absolutely shattered" candlelight vigils in memory of drunk or distracted teenage drivers. At least most of those who take part in those overstated emotional sobfests actually know the deceased. How many of the fans with tickets to tomorrow night's NBA games (or whenever the next full slate is scheduled) actually knew Kobe Bryant as anything other than one of the best basketball players of his time?

And even with that, in the days after 9/11/01, it would have bene hard for the to get flight, and i don't know do they have private airplanes for teams to fly to where their next games or games are, as when you realize how long driving time it would take teams to get to certain cities. Even when you have an west coast and east coast team going up against each other no matter who is hosting.

According to this NBA Schedule all other NBA Teams will continue games on Tuesday Night as scheduled. Only LA Clippers and LA Lakers are postponing the games given the situation they are in.

And it makes sense that both Los Angles teams are off, as they are in a town that is mourning, plus how cold the Clippers played since months ago when NBA released the schedule for this season, they could have thought this would happen.

True and I am watching the Warriors vs. 76ers game at this time and the players did a tribute to Kobe Bryant in their opening play in the 1st quarter. Yes its similar to how NBA Teams reacted on the day Kobe Bryant died its a case of how do you show respect to a NBA Legend who just left in the way he and the other victims in the Helicopter Crash did.

https://people.com/sports/kobe-bryant-wife-vanessa-had-deal-never-fly-helicopter-together/

Kobe Bryant used helicopters to get around Los Angeles, but he and his wife Vanessa Bryant made a point not to fly together.

“He and Vanessa had a deal that they would never fly on a helicopter together,” a source tells PEOPLE of the couple, who tied the knot in 2001.

Bryant, who was killed alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other people in Sunday’s crash, is survived by Vanessa, 37, and their daughters Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3, and Capri, who was born in June 2019.

The former NBA player, 41, and his daughter were on their way to a youth basketball game at the time of the crash, according to ESPN.

If this was true type story though but either way the story does not erase anything the Lakers and Kobe Bryants family are feeling though,

And there has no been no announcement where the helicopter was heading to when it had crashed, I first saw it in a story and was thinking that it wasn't true, but I saw it a few times when I had realized it was. Disney had lost a president Frank Wells in a helicopter crash back in 1994. And Bill Graham was killed in a helicopter crash as well in 1991.

Even Current NBA Pundit Shaq and to a certain extent the entire Lakers team thought Kobe's Death was a Hoax until the LA County Sheriff's Department confirmed that his death was true. The NBA Pundits on TNT did a special on Kobe at an empty Staples Center on the cancelled game.

It is easy to think when you hear a celerity death to be hoax until you her enough of it or see it, to know it is true. and even TMZ had reported it before his family could be told in advance before Kobe Bryant and his daughter's names released to the public. Much like how the families of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper's families learned their death on the news, before having them getting told in advance before the news story came out.

That is true you have to show respect to a NBA legend, and I am sure all teams will have or have already down some kind of a tribute to him, which will include at some point a moment of silence being called by the team's Public Address Announcer. I bet of how many of his teammates still can't believe that he is guy, as for them it might only seem like it was yesterday that he played with them. As his retirement came after the 2015-16 season, and ESPN has announced that they will re-air his final game.

ABC News has suspended chief national correspondent Matt Gutman over a false statement he made on-air Sunday following the death of Kobe Bryant.

Gutman had erroneously reported that all four of Bryant’s daughters were on board the helicopter that crashed into the hills of Calabasas. Bryant and his 13 year-old daughter Gianna were among nine people killed in the accident. Bryant’s other three children were not on board the aircraft.

“Reporting the facts accurately is the cornerstone of our journalism,” ABC News said in a statement. “As he acknowledged on Sunday, Matt Gutman’s initial reporting was not accurate and failed to meet our editorial standards.”

Matt Gutman of ABC News has been suspended when he released initial reports of Kobe Bryant's death saying all of Kobe's Children died in the crash when it turned out it was only one of them. Yes also I remember when TNT had special with their NBA Pundits that some of the NBA pundits were initially told that Rick Fox was killed in the Helicopter crash with Bryant until that was disproven later on. Its easy to see why the Lakers and their fans thought Kobe's death was a hoax at first though.

It seems to me that you choose the wrong reply to post the article to

Congress in talks to add helicopter safety standards in response to Kobe Bryant's death.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A bill to require the FAA to strengthen federal safety standards for helicopters was introduced by a California congressman Thursday in response to the crash that killed Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others.

The Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant Helicopter Safety Act, introduced by Congressman Brad Sherman, D-Los Angeles, would direct the Federal Aviation Administration to adopt new helicopter safety standards in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board, which would include a requirement that helicopters be equipped with a Terrain Awareness and Warning System.

The bill would also establish a commission on helicopter safety and require a report to Congress on best practices for helicopters in cases of low visibility.

But in some ways is that really needed, as you don't her about too many helicopter crashes. In the 90's the ones that died were Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bill Graham, and Frank Wells of course all in different years. But really as far as I can recall nob body until this past Sunday's accident. And Lakers are playing their first game tonight, since the accident that is scheduled to tip off less then an hour from now and will be on ESPN.

One I recall vividly is Jane Dornacker, the traffic reporter for WNBC New York. The rotor stopped in the middle of her report. She gasped, shouted "Hit the water!" three times, and then silence. And in England, just last year, the owner of the Leicester City soccer club of the Premier League died when his helicopter crashed on takeoff from the helipad at his team's stadium.
