Last I checked it was still off.

What a shame!! Jerry Russell strikes again! I dont really think that he had a stroke or whatever he claims happened. He just doesnt have a clue.

Radio-Info has KOFY listed now as "Currently off the air". Can anyone dig up any FCC reports on this?

OBTW I noticed KDOK 1240 in Kilgore has been off the air since last week. Anyone know what's going on there?

This was on the FCC Daily Digest, today, March 5.:
"Application could not be granted due to "red light" hold for failure to pay regulatory fee and failure to tender application filing fee and late-fee penalty payment. License cancelled and call sign deleted, renewal application dismissed as moot, by letter."

ref. 1800B3-DW on 02/29/2012.

I saw that, and then read the entire correspondence file on the matter. It's a sad ending for KOFY, and if there is a lesson to be learned it might be that Jerry Russell should have made sure that he paid the $187.50.

I would love to have owned that station! In 2005 Waller offered 550,000 for that station and Russell turned it down saying it was worth far more and that was an insult.

That really makes me wonder if Russell has died. ??? Sad demise for the most powerful AM in East Texas.

I doubt that he died. By the way 600 is the most powerful in east texas due to the low frequency and its 5 kw daytime signal.

Yes, KTBB's daytime coverage is fine but it would be lot better if it weren't for the horrible ground conductivity in East Texas. Of course, nighttime is a different story since Longview coverage totally disappears. I was part of a group of investors looking into buying KTBB at one time and that was one of a number of reasons we decided not to pursue it.

If you are comparing ERP then KOFY was the most powerful at 10kW. But you are correct that KTBB has the best signal and largest coverage area of any ETX AM.

Gleiser tried serving Longview at night with KEES, but the nighttime signal on 1430 was no better than 600. KFRO is the only signal left in Longview that Gleiser could possibly try to buy or LMA and use to rebroadcast 600. And even KFRO has problems at night north of Loop 281 due to their directional signal that was designed to serve Longview as it was in 1941, with 90% of the population south of US80.

That's what I meant, power in ERP. 1060 had a much better signal when it was in Gilmer.

It's doubtful Gleiser could get KTBB's night signal modified so it doesn't null out Longview. I've picked 600 up loud & clear nights in Lawton Oklahoma.
