I think that KTBB has to protect WMT Cedar Rapids, IA. At night in Longview, 600 is a mash of signals, with KTBB in the mix, but the dominant station is WMT. I noticed one evening last week, KTBB "forgot" to switch to the nighttime array. They were still booming into Longview at 8:00 PM.
 
Has anyone driven by the KOFY tower to see if the old farmer had it "cut down"? He always said that if that feller dont pay the rent on this site im gonna take my bolt cutters and cut that tower down right then and thar!

I may drive by later this week. I also wonder what has happened to KDOK too, its been off the air for several weeks now. The website is still online and streaming audio. KFRO-AM is on the air with NO audio, while KEES has had very low audio for months.
 
KFRO is back on the air, but seems to be at low power. Signal is full of static and barely listenable in Kilgore.

KDOK is back on the air now.

Gheeze, if the dummies at Townsquare, Access One, and Salt of The Earth took care of their FM stations as poorly as their AM stations how many listeners would they get?
 
Salt of the Earth has no FM's ! And they are (KEES/KGLD) basically satellite stations and dependant on the (extremely expensive) Broadcast Works.

As for Townsquare and ETRG, what are they supposed to focus the stations that are getting 150.00 a spot or 5.00 a spot? when your losing money or barely breaking even why would they put any effort into it?
 
Other than talk and sports, I don't listen to anything on AM. Music sounds better on FM and if it's some niche format, I can probably find it streaming online for free. There is generally no format (besides the previously mentioned talk and sports) that you can put on these little local 1kw AM stations that would make enough money to pay their power bill.

I say, turn in those little 1kw licenses and make way for the big 50kw clear channel stations again. We have plenty of FM stations to serve the local interests.
 
KFRO can make money again due to the fact that its grade A contour covers more than 100k people. And music can work on AM still! But not on an AM daytimer ! Stations with less than 50K people in the coverage area should just turn in the license.
