KOGO TO FM

A scoped aircheck from the morning of 11/7/11 is at this link: http://formatchange.com/kogo-adds-simulcast-on-95-7/

The time of day on the 9+ minute clip is from approximately 6:30am PT to 7:05am PT.

The last song of the KUSS New Country format was the standard "Country Closer" when a station leaves the format: "The Dance" by Garth Brooks from 1990.

The "Listen Live" link on the old KUSS 95.7 FM website leads to the CCC Premiere Choice "Country Road" feed -

95.7 HD2 will air Country Music.

Further lineup update as per what was heard on "format flip" clip from above and now posted on the KOGO AM 600 website -

I don't know if there's any market that can sustain two country formats anymore. It's a good format, with a lot of listeners, but the listening pool is shrinking for everything. KUSS had what, one live person left? It's like they gave up on it a long time ago. In the mean time, KSON retains its heritage status and brings back Tony and Kris for evenings.

That was one of the worst format flips I've ever heard. 7am on 95.7 was a mess.

Why do you think it was a mess? Seemed solid to me. The last song faded out followed by a promo for the new KOGO on 95.7 which included a smooth intro to live news/talk. Seemed like one of the smoothest format flips I've ever heard.

I would have preferred a nice Christmas format on 95.7 first, then they could have got all the Christmas ratings first and beat KyXy this year, and made ALOT of money. But oh well what do I know. Ill go back to unclogging the toilet.

Well, the produced station introduction to Steely Dan's "FM" narrated by Malcolm Ryker was bizarre with random, and not really indicative clips, from each of the hosts. Malcolm is a creative guy, but he narrates like he is reading a Dr. Seuss book, and singing in station imaging was cool and "out-of-the-box" about 15 years ago. Now it's annoying. Once that finished, the FM audience got to hear the 2 oldest people on the air in San Diego, Chip Franklin and Cliff Albert. WTF? I still love the idea of mini-van moms hopping in their cars at 9am to hear not Sugarland, but Rush Limbaugh. Ditto!

A lot of markets can support two country stations. In Charlotte NC for exampe it's not uncommon for Country to rank 1-2. On the West coast both the country stations in Portland thrive. There are several other examples.

The loss of New Country 95.7 is a real drag. I preferred it to the "other" SD country station. Bad decision guys, I guess I'll make the switch. If I wanted to hear talk radio I would turn on AM. End of story.

If you want country, check out Sirius/XM: I've become a big fan of Outlaw Country.

The consensus seems to have been that Clear Channel kept KUSS country mainly to pull away some market share from KSON, to keep them from getting into the top of the ratings as they used to. San Diego had in fact supported two country stations for over 12 years ever since Victor Diaz started Hot Country 99.3 in June 1999 (it later morphed into KUSS).

Well when Mike O'Butthead got ahold of the CC Country station /Hot Country/BOB/ US957/KUSS, he knew and knows nothing about country. He is an AC programmer, his vision was to make a feminized country station (a country version of KyXy), and that simply doesnt work with country audiences! Even the women that listen to country like to drive pickups and LARGE SUVs. Soft country just doesn't work. I can't believe that they kept that thing country as long as they did. They should have gone talk or sports with it A LONG time ago.

Unfortunately I don't have XM, I've listened to that KOGO BS, lame. Go back to playing with your toilets 600kogo & listen to that droned out drama, sounds like it's right up your alley. I'll be on KSON, or listening to real country on my IPOD.

Mr. Sears, you do not know what my alley is, if I had my way they would have made KUSS a Classic Country station. But it is a private corporation and I don't believe that they really care about the opinion of a competitor. So thank you for your snide remarks in my general direction. From a business sense the move made sense. If I had my way TV and FM would be turned off and AM would be the only medium and NRSC would be abolished. So thank God I'm not in charge of anything!

All I can say is RIP Steve Jobs and thanks a million for creating the iPod. It comes in handy all the time now.

Broadcasting is dead in America.
