KOH Question

When and why did KOH start using Channel 4 weather in their hourly news? Anyone know the deal behind that? I am hearing it this morning after about a week and noticed the change...

As I heard it, KOH and Channel 8 ended their deal because it wasn't as "mutually beneficial" for channel 8 as it once was. So Citadel went over to channel 4 and struck a deal with them. It started up just a week or so ago.

It sounds like there was a falling out somewhere.

In regard to the TV weather reports on KKOH, I do not see the advantage. Yes the weather people are good, except the reports become dated (whether its channel 4 or 8).

What happened to the radio newsperson/annoncer on duty reading and reporting the weather?

I also remember when Mike Alger from channel 2 did weather reports on KODS. This was a situation where he was paid by KODS and channel 2 benefited by the promotion. That seemed to make sense for an FM station.

For a news/talk station that has live people on air 24 hours it just does not make sense for them not to report fresh up to date weather. At least they give the current temp.

Agreed. Funny part is that While KOH and The rest of the Citadel stations are now "in bed" with Channel 4, KBUL is still using Channel 2's Alger for weather!?

For show, it works - for function, I agree that it's better to have an updated forecast.

I was told by a friend in the RRR building that channel 8 is trying to get more in bed with Americom/RRR - so that may be related to the falling out.

On an off note, KKOH has some really poor sounding news announcers at night (when I can hear them more clearly here in the Sacramento Valley). For a station with such a big singal (albeit pointed northwest, west and southwest) at night, you'd think that they would at least put some decent-sounding people.

I suspect they just put on whoever is running the board for Coast To Coast AM. Come to think of it, I guess it doesn't matter when your programming matches that of hundreds of others on the AM band at night - not that C2C is a bad show as I enjoy it as I surf many a night.

My local 650 KSTE has generic rushed-sounding Clear Channel national news headlines - but at least with decent-sounding annoucers...
