LARadioRewind said:Gary Springfield has been KOLA's program director since 1995. A few years ago he dropped all the pre-1964 songs and added a lot of 1970s-80s music, changing the format from "oldies" to "classic rock"...although I don't understand why classic rock songs can't also be considered oldies. Anyway, KOLA is often the number-one station in the Riverside-San Bernardino PPM Arbitron ratings, even though the station's playlist is now much smaller than that of KRTH. Go figure!
It was The KOLA Morning Show with Brian & Patti. AllAccess had the story on Jan 2 - http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/113781/kola-cuts-brian-patti-morning-show - INLAND EMPIRE BROADCASTING Classic Hits KOLA/RIVERSIDE-SAN BERNARDINO, CA bids adieu to the BRIAN CASEY and PATTI BANNER morning show, along with producer ASHLEY TURNER.kn3ick said:They just let their morning show hosts and the morning show producer go at KOLA.
LARadioRewind said:Okay, okay, I apologize for confusing "classic hits" with "classic rock." There is a big difference between the two. The "classic rock" format plays Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones, Chicago, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Journey, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Doobie Brothers. The "classic hits" format plays Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones, Chicago, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Journey, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Doobie Brothers plus Oh Pretty Woman and Happy Together.
Radioresearcher said:Classic Rock plays Led Zeppelin, Rush, AC/DC, and Aerosmith harder edged music.
Classic Hits plays the artists you mentioned plus Hall & Oates, Earth Wind & Fire, The O'Jays, Donna Summer, Stevie Wonder and a lot of pop music.
Completely different formats.

LARadioRewind said:KOLA used to play a lot of 1964-69 songs that KRTH ignored: Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield, Mama Cass, American Breed, Mojo Men, Standells, Dave Clark Five, Chad & Jeremy, Sonny & Cher, Paul Revere & the Raiders, and many others. Just think of what high ratings a station could have with a format that played, at the very least, every top-20 song of those six years!

I'm thinking... about as high as I can think, ratings wise, is about a 0.8 in 25-54.
